I was recently quoted $510 to replace my plugs from the local dealership and assumed I could find a decent shop to do it for much less. Well, the most reputable shop near me actually quoted $520 and they were surprised that their price was higher than the dealership. Is $500 the going rate? I thought it was a relatively easy job, but I have never done it and am finding out that I may be more oblivious than previously thought haha.

Appreciate the incite... but $5 iridium plugs are not a thing and the risk of being out of a car due to me messing something up is not worth it to me. Always good to know your strengths and weaknesses, but unless it was out of necessity, I would not risk my overpriced/daily driven vehicle in my own hands for something like this. Just hoping to pay for a true 1.5 hours of labor instead of 3-4 hours of labor that shops try to charge.

You got this Blake. I’m sure there are SoCal members that would help out over some beers.

I just bought the OEM Denso Iridium TT plugs for $10 each at advanced auto and swapped them all in about 2 hours last Sunday

Haven't done mine yet. Any difficult spots to get to? I know some vehicles have 1 or 2 towards the cab that are an absolute bitch to get to.

All the driver side unless you want to remove the intake manifold. It can be done without doing that though

I'd think you could wait another 40,000 miles before they need it. The guy I use charges $60/hour labor + parts so probably around $200 max. Someone who knows what they are doing can do that job in under an hour.

Iridium TT(IKBH20TT) are not the OEM spark plug.
    Iridium Long Life SIP(FK20HBR8) are.

Lemme be the first to say, if you're not comfortable, just don't do it. It's a fairly simple job. But u know your own limits, maybe someone can help oversee, if not 500$ seems kinda fair, I never pay for auto work, do I can't really help there. Don't be afraid to shop around, it's a fairly easy task for people with tools and a bit of knowledge, so some non dealer shops might be cheaper.

I would charge $200 labor max. Have done the job several times. They don't need to remove the intake manifold.

Edit: just realized you are in Cost Mesa. I'm in Lakewood if you want to bring it by.

Even if you pay someone else, it's never a bad idea to educate yourself about what you are paying for.

That question is answered in Car Care Nut's video linked above. The answer is no. They are good for 60k.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
    Manual says 60k miles.

this is a pretty easy job as a DIY’er. If you haven’t done plugs, find a friend who has and have them come over and help. Pay them $100 and you learn how to do it and save lots of cash.
