As the title says, I was wondering if anybody knows of any cool gadgets or a more modern display to replace the temperature/compass with. All I could find on Google were just OEM replacements. I was thinking an inclinometer would be cool, though it'd be unusual place for one compared to having it on the dash instead. Perhaps one that still displayed temp/compass, though with a little more info combined with a larger display and a more modern vibe?

Good thinking. Mine hasn't worked in years and seems like a pita to replace.

It's super easy to solder in new resistors. Over a year now since I did the mod and not a single issue. No need to replace the entire display.

Yup, easy fix. Just don't do what tons of people (including myself) have done, and solder the originals back in. They typically hold up for a few months, and come back out. More than likely because the surface area is so small, that you can't get enough solder on to hold securely. Just order a couple of full size resistors, and replace the factory ones with those. I'm on 3+ years since I put the full size resistors in.

Not at all, and you can buy the updated Toyota module for $160 on Amazon I soldered the resisters in my original one once, it failed again, so I found the module on Amazon. It's been in for 10 years and hasn't failed since...

It takes about 5 minutes to swap out the module. Ten minutes if you take your time.

No way at all I would spend $160 to fix something that costs less than $2 to fix.

As long as you don't mind taking it apart every 6 months to do temp fixes...lol

When I took mine apart I found that the soldering had come loose, so I resoldered using a higher temp solder and it's been holding for 3 years so far

There’s a guy on eBay that fixes these for $15. Totally worth it.

I think I re-soldered mine over 10 years ago, still working fine
