Today on Past Tech with Rusty we are back at the 66 Ford which developed a bearing noise in the alternator -- the original 55 year old alternator. Replacement was only about $50.

It was a grueling job -- had to use a few wrenches and sockets...
Took less than an hour working at my usual snails pace.

Only clean spot under a dirty hood, I like driving this car, not so good at polishing it.
The fluids and filters are clean so good enough. Did a 60 mile test drive.

Look at this wire end, pretty nice for 55 years old, all of them were this clean.

Sooooo nice working on older vehicles; I rebuilt the head on our Rambler a few years back. From the time I lifted the hood, until the time I put the head on my work bench to start stripping it down? <30 minutes. IIRC, I used: One 3/8" ratchet, 1/2" & 11/16 sockets, 1/2" box-end wrench, common screw-driver, and a pair of needle-nose pliers.

So much agree. Did the job, check with the volt meter and shut the hood.
Didn't even have the reset the clock -- doesn't have one.

    A thing or two...
My truck is a 4 cyl, and I've never wished that I had the v6. It's not going to win the quarter mile, but I've never had a problem passing slowpokes. I don't tow anything, so that's never been an issue. Only issues I've had is the steering rack has been replaced twice and the SAIS took a crap and had to be replaced.

    So much concentration.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I have only moved or taken a short test drive with an empty truck any of the newer 2.7 engines so I can not compare them to my former favorite 2.4

Weather here sucks. I’d rather have snow. It’s 50 and rain, with 40-60 mph wind gusts.

Sorry to hear it. Down here we're currently in one of the two 2 week long spells of decent weather between muggy and cold and muggy and hot.
