Hello everyone, my name is Mike and I have been the owner of a 2010 Tacoma since April 18, 2010 when I bought that truck with 2 miles on it. The truck currently is now showing 177,something and although it has had only a couple of bumps along the way (really only a handful) I really have enjoyed owning that thing. I'm a service advisor at a Mercedes Benz dealership in the Washington D.C. area so I have access to a lift and have a fairly acceptable collection of tools because I like to try and do things on my vehicles whenever I can. I've used this forum for awhile now to get information about what is involved in various repairs or things to be on the lookout for but I will admit there are some things that I have had to pay someone else to do but for the most part I really will try DIY first. I plan to contribute whatever quality content to the forum community that I can. Sadly this past Wednesday afternoon my Tacoma did not fair so well after a near miss with a deer. The details are unimportant, my Tacoma gave up its life to keep my 17 yr old daughter unharmed. Alot shook up from the incident but completely unscathed from the impact. I owe that truck a huge amount of respect. So now I am looking for another Tacoma, I'd really like a newer version but I think realistically with the insurance settlement, it will afford me a very nice 2nd generation body and I'm completely fine with that as my first Tacoma did me right in so many ways.
My offroading with my Tacoma was 100% on the sand. I find surf fishing to be very relaxing but lugging all your shit across the parking lot and sand is too much like work and who wants to work when they are at the beach? I put an OSV permit on that thing several years back and go to Assateague Island several times throughout the year. So I get the best of all of it. Offroading, not having to make multiple trips to and from my truck to get all my crap to the beach and then back to my truck at the end of the day and I get to surf fish as long as I want. What's not to like!
Anyway, thanks very much for reading my introduction.

    Mike

    Welcome Mike,

glad your daughter is ok...hopefully, not too traumatized by the event. You comforting her makes for healing recovery.

It took me less than a month to find my next vehicle after my accident in Oct/2018. Every time I saw a first generation Silver Honda Pilot, my heart would sink. My family grew up in that SUV and it had over 200K miles on it.

You know what you want and finding that vehicle that meets your needs will show itself. Example, I had $10K to spend...$4500 from the insurance and the rest cash that I was able to put together. I walked into two used car lots and put my cards out: "I'm looking for an SUV type vehicle for $10K.

At first, I was determined to get a newer Pilot...but the ones available had high mileage and were $13K+. I wasn't about to finance the difference so I would not entertain $3-5K over my $10K cash.

Then I went to a third used car dealership...the dealership I use to take my Pilot to for service, and the NEW sale rep remembered they had an SUV that fit my needs. Bam! I found my car. I won't go into the salivating details but I think I scored great with the 2010 Mazda CX-9 with 113K miles on it.

I would eventually trade-in that CX-9 for my 2021 TRD Sport but since this was my first NEW truck, I financed the balance after generating $10K from the trade-in plus some cash.

So, I hope you have a story to tell once you find your newer version Tacoma. Good luck and take each interaction with sales people with a grain of salt.

    Ed

Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate all your sentiments. Like I originally stated luckily my daughter is unscathed.

below is my usual set up at Assateague Island. What you can’t see in the photo is that at the time it was taken there is literally no one in sight to the north and south of me. It’s very weird yet calming to be the only one in sight on the beach

Wife and I went to Assateaugue Island about a month or so. It was just a day trip (112 miles) from Dover and a nice drive through MD & VA.

Very quaint area. We did some trails to possibly capture views of those wild horses they got there. Saw some from a far distance and we were happy.

Some members in the Delaware Tacomas thread have mentioned surf fishing. I've never done it but seems to be popular activity around these parts.

Beautiful photo of your truck on the beach. What solitude you had while set up out there!

Definitely will. Ironically enough I had next Saturday blocked out. Too bad too, sucks how life gets in the way sometimes of the things you really want to do.
