I found out it was not a Toyota warranty but a 3rd party warranty. Dealership didn’t tell me this when I purchased it.

Depending on the state where you bought your truck you might not have the choice of going with the Toyota extended warranty. For example, here in Florida the closest you can get is a warranty from Fidelity Warranty, which is the warranty company of Southeast Toyota Distributors. They actually are pretty well rated and my extended powertrain warranty doesn't have the exclusion yours has (I re-read it after seeing this thread), but it's not a Toyota warranty. Other dealers in Toyota distributor areas are probably the same.

Not enough bandwidth on the internet to list.
First thing I'd do is go find the F&I d-bag that hozed you and kick 'em square in the nuts. Check your warranty paperwork. If you have any unused time/mileage, in many states, you can submit for a prorated refund. Might as well since it probably won't cover anything in the future.

So you’re telling me I should probably stop going WOT getting on the Turnpike?

I really haven’t been too worried about it, but perhaps I should. Figured 7K tops was still considered “safe” ish to occasionally hit. I’m at 85k now, so far so good. Got a buddy that rolled over 110K with most of those tuned as well, but not a performance tune like mine is running.

Still bonkers that 3rd party warranty doesn’t cover much that is useful, dang! We had a Nissan Sentra crap the bed with valves/timing after the dealership themselves worked on it at 80K and we took a major loss on that car. Never again. It also had a warranty, that did cover some work (about 10K worth) but then it only lasted another few hundred miles before crapping the bed again.

    But that wasn’t a Toyota!

Why not just go to 8? You go the gauge for it.

When buying my truck the paperwork guy lowered his voice and said: "I'm not supposed to tell you this (instant BS red flag for me) but just before the warranty expires, book an service appointment to have the truck inspected with the purpose of finding something that is about to fail, but now gets discovered and fixed before the warranty expires".

This is not all that bad of an idea for the customer, but of course he IS supposed to tell me to get an inspection that I pay the dealer to do and if they find something, then Toyota pays the dealer to fix under warranty. If the part failure happens after the warranty then I might go to an indy shop that charges less and the dealership loses the repair job.

So the inspection is a win for the dealership and they are motivated to find some warranty repair work but it could also benefit the customer.

Whether you are buying an extended warranty or a health plan, always ask for a copy of the contract to read before purchasing it. Have them email it to you. Most probably it will be in .pdf format. Then do four separate searches for these four words: except, exclu, limit, and not cover. Exclu is the correct input: it captures all variations of "exclude". Each instance it finds these words you read everything above and below it. BECAUSE, if it is not in the exclusions or limitations, it must be covered. It is easier to actually read and understand what something does not cover up front, than assuming it does and then have a surprise like this one.

If you think you may purchase an extended warranty, call ahead a couple of days so you will have time to digest it. Don't try reading it at the dealership.

Wifey worked at a "warranty company" back in the early '80s. I don't know the company name. Was in CA.
They denied EVERY claim that came through to them. Every one (that she witnessed or talked to her co-workers about).
She learned then and has drilled it into me, to NEVER go with an extended warranty on anything - unless - that extended warranty is provided by the manufacturer of that product. (No guarantees then either, but much better odds.)
