Thanks man. Good eye, there’s a crapload going on behind there haha. Wanted the deepest niches we could, but could only fit a 2x6” wall. 1/2” backer is two sided with tile where the niches are so we could get 5” deep niche, but no room to fit plumbing other than on the sides. Tub plumbing goes down that wall, too. Ran 3/4” PEX to all the shower goodies which made for an even tighter fit. Not to mention I don’t have one of those fancy PEX power tools so I have to figure out what to preassemble before cinching it all together haha

those are marble thresholds I picked up at floor and decor and just cut one side’s tapered edge off. I had some beautiful 1” thick pieces I used up in the last house. They were pulling them out of a historic building in Birmingham and I snagged some from the guy that got them.

Welp I guess I should have done the garage door bottom seal last week before it got cold.

Picked up this Ego 530 cfm. This thing kicks ass! Great for small jobs keeping shit tidy around the house. Can't remember exactly what I paid but it was less than 2 bills for the unit and battery/charger.

Not that it's a contest but SoCal is on the far end of the other side of the spectrum. Out running errands on Friday I saw 101* in the car (obviously inflated due to reflection off the highway, but still)

I get that you can get climatized to any weather after a little bit and whatever you're accustom to feels 'normal' but it's those 30 degree temp swings in SoCal in a day that would have me confused. Leaving for work in the morning wearing a hoodie, sweating my bag off during the day, and then looking for a blanket at night again.

At least Alaska is consistent... Nov 1 put on parka, April 1 remove parka.

Lol, the weather swings are why you see idiots in shorts at 0° F. It probably just warmed up from a week if - 40° F.

It is amazing how "cold" 50 feels in the fall and how "hot" 50 feels in the spring.

I have some big air leaks from from the attic. It's a town home with 2 shared cinder block walls on each side. The spot where the ceiling 2x4 mates to the brick has an air gap. Code says these walls don't need to be insulated so they never were and the drywall is cold all the way to the basement.

I spray foamed what I could and it's made a big difference. The problem is that as the roof gets lower, Im having trouble reaching the ends of the roof. What can I do to seal this? The gap is no larger than 1/4. My arms are just not long enough.

FWIW I considered using CA+Activator while redoing all trim, but looked up the MSDS for the activator and decided I don't want it discharging in my direct inhalation zone. YMMV etc.

the Vancouver Carpenter guy on youtube did a good strength test comparing the CA method to old fashioned wood glue on various corner types and materials (pine vs MDF). In brief he found CA is strong enough, but sometimes somewhat weaker than wood glue.

From a time saving perspective it seems like a winner. I work with chemicals as a day job so I probably read into it differently.

I used it in concert with CA glue. It acts like a clamp until the CA cures. This was done to add filler pieces to the trim due to the wall thickness not being typical. The house was built in the 50's and has plasterboard with about 3/4" thick plaster on top of that. I'll snag a pic later for reference.

this is a good trim technique where it is hard to clamp pieces for standard PVA glue open times

If u lay a board across the rafters to lie on could u reach any further? Might be time to borrow somebody’s kid lol

any air exiting the wall assembly thru the top has to be infiltrating lower down. Try to find the sources and seal them. Might be worth putting foam gaskets behind your switch and outlet covers; if the wall feels cold as you say it might be outside air coming in and the convective loop might in turn depressurize your wall and pull conditioned air from your envelope
