Hey guys, new here just purchased a 2016 TRD Off Road. To be honest the ordeal was more than I bargained for (I’m not too experienced with car buying but I’ve always wanted a taco) I kinda let that blind me in my purchase. Anyways when test driving everything seemed fine except for a noise (was told it was power steering pump they were replacing that day) so I went forward with the deal thinking it would be fixed & if drive it home that day & was told if I wanted to grab lunch it would be ready after. Get a call saying they replaced it but it wasn’t what they thought it was... fast forward & they’re saying it’s the transmission it needs to be replaced but offered to do it & cover the costs. Now I’m waiting for the new transmission to be installed, should have the truck in the next couple days but all in all just wanted to get some others perspective on the situation. Thanks guys.

Thanks man, I’m excited but also kinda nervous about the new purchase. I guess it having a new transmission installed is actually a plus but definitely not what I expected.

If you bought it from a Toyota dealer your new tranny is warranteed. Hear you, I'd be on pins & needles myself. Nice truck & good luck.

How many miles on it? If you know a good mechanic I'd have him take a look at the truck prior to purchase.

Unfortunately I’d already put the down payment & went through with the purchase, not sure if I can back out. It’s got 180,000. I know that’s a lot but I have heard Tacoma’s last 300,000+

Yeah I figured it was actually a blessing in disguise getting it replaced. It’s also got new brakes, tires, power steering pump & serpentine belt.

Wait ! it's a 2016 and there are transmission issues already?! Mine is a 99, with 323,400 miles on it, and I've never had transmission issues. Find a master Toyota mechanic (plenty on here) or get a trusted local mechanic and go over that truck with a fine tooth comb. Wishing you the best.
