I have a 2013 TRD Sport. It has 130,000 miles. It has been well cared for and all maintenance has been done according to the manual. At 120,000 the transmission had difficulty shifting into drive. My dealership said it was a common problem with the "neutral switch" and replaced it for $860. About a month later, my truck started having problems going from reverse to drive. (Backing up then stopping and shifting into drive) There is a lag of about 5 seconds or more and a clunking shift. Since then, I have moved to a different part of Mass and two local dealers want nothing to do with it. The last one suggested that I buy a rebuild for $6000. Anyone else run into this problem?

Welcome to TW! I'm sorry your having trouble with the tranny - did you call the place that did the work the first time? I'd let them look at it & ask for a free appt to determine the problem.

    It’s not always the switch.
Sometimes it the connector. There’s been more than one person with a corroded connection.
I’d at least disconnect the P/N Safety Switch and inspect the connection.
It’s free and not to hard to get to.

Dont think I have much to add . The guys above pretty much covered everything and anything I was going to mention .
It is a computer controlled transmission mind you . Would be nice to know what the computer in your truck thinks about the condition of your transmission . How bout scanning for codes as posted above ?
I second the opinion regarding a fluid level check

I seriously doubt there is anything mechanically wrong. Sounds like an electrical gremlin. I've seen mice chew insulation off wires resulting in a short that caused transmissions to throw all sorts of codes and shift wonky. Instead of a new transmission a little shrink wrap on the exposed wire fixed the problem.

Take it to a trusted independent shop and have them look at it. Specifically ask them to look for damaged wires.
