Same here. Average good deer is 150-175 lbs. alive, most I’ve ever seen one weigh is 205. Average rack is 125”, we consider a monster about 140” plus.

yes that would be live weight.back in the early 1900’s deer were pretty wiped out here. so deer were transplanted from different areas of the country. we have definite different gene pools in the state. and i think some may have been from Bama.,michigan and other strong holds at that time.some from original VA deer in the Dismal Swamp in south eastern VA.

    That's crazy.
As an adult who has never hunted, I always wondered how hunters got the deer back to their vehicles.

You can drag them like a crazy person or wheel them around with carts or sleds. Ive gone to butchering in the field. Pull the quaters and all the meat and stick em in bags. Then you carry it out on your back which i find easier out where I hunt.

Only way I've done it this year. Only issue is now I don't have a deer hanging in the garage reminding me I need to break it down lol.

That is true for sure! Easier to walk by the cooler on the garage floor than a full carcass hanging from the ceiling.

My son came home Thursday to bow hunt for the first time ever (crossbow). Hunted Friday morning - saw nothing - then we helped my father-in-law work on his deck replacement...good grandson!! Saturday was Cold, Rainy and very WINDY so we passed on that. Sunday was cold and somewhat windy - I wanted to go back to bed (I am an old fart!!) but Cole wanted to go, so we sat in the ground blind for a few hours till the wind started kicking up. Called it a day. Gotta give him credit for at least trying. He will be back for the first 2 days of gun season the Monday/Tuesday after turkey day. Not sure if I will try with the crossbow or not due to my shoulder, BUT it feels good for the most part and I have the time.

Keep the pictures coming, guys!!!! May help to spur me into going out to at least try.
