Though I've heard of propane being substituted for R-12, and that obviously is flammable!

 

Propane is R290, classified as a refrigerant. Obviously it is very flammable, which is why it was banned for AC use in vehicles in the 90s.

 

I didn't know it was ever technically legal to use in vehicles! I met a guy with a 1992 Dodge Dakota once in like 2013 or 2014 who admitted to charging the system with propane when he couldn't find R-12...

 

I can't remember if it was legal or not. This was shortly after R12 was phased out in '95.
My point was it is also classified as a refrigerant.

 

Burning R-12 is bad news, it creates Phosgene Gas...

 

R-22 as well; R-12 is for automotive and refrigerators, and R-22 is for central A/C and window units. The R-22 phaseout started in 2009...

 

Yeah my Ex GF had a window unit with a humungous R-22 sticker on it, never figured out why it was so large.

I was blessed to know someone with a HVAC license in the 1990s..I was able to acquire several cans and recharge my 88 Chevy Celebrity for about $30.

 

Glad for you man. I don’t know you personally but I have a good idea of how you feel about vehicles and I wouldn’t be surprised if you kept this truck for the rest of your life.

 

Yeah; Has no affect on their ability to replace the frame. I decorated the truck thinking the frame wouldn't arrive until December or even January..
