    Hello!

Thanks for the add! I am posting a question in an effort to help someone out. The person I am helping purchased a 2021 Tacoma TRD sport with 8400 miles from CarMax. The next day we noticed the audio was missing a lot of mid range. The truck has the JBL head unit, dash speakers, and a subwoofer behind the rear seat, but all four door speakers are missing. The truck is supposed to have a complete premium factory JBL upgrade. You can literally see metal when flashing a light through the door card where the speakers are supposed to be.. Regardless, they have an appointment with CarMax to replace the missing speakers. CarMax has not laid eyes on the truck yet since we discovered the problem.

In an effort to stay one step ahead, I searched online and noticed the front door speakers have a factory plastic insert where the speaker is supposed to mount onto. The owner does not want to take the door card off to check if the inserts are still there. In a worse case scenario, how difficult would it be to add speakers if the wiring and inserts were missing? Of course we assume the wiring is there but if everything was missing how hard would it be? He's got the option to give the truck back within 30 days no questions asked but he really wants to keep the truck. He just doesn't want to be stuck if CarMax offered to throw some cash back his way to get the problem resloved on his own.

@bonifacio has some good pictures, and may be able to answer the question. He may even have some speakers.

See his entertaining thread over here. GL!

If the speakers are actually missing, it will take an hour to put in all 4. Super easy job. You will be able to head over to the marketplace and find someone selling their JBL speakers for $100-200 I bet, and you will need some bolts from the hardware store. The plugs will plug in, the mounting holes will line up, and you’ll be in and out in no time

…as long as the connectors are intact.

Looks like someone installed some aftermarket speakers and wanted to keep them so they were removed before letting the truck go and nothing was installed to replace them.

This is a super easy fix as long as the harness wasn’t altered for the aftermarket speakers. The Toyota speakers that belong there are an all in one mounting bracket and speaker combination.

If he didn't know about the lack of speakers when buying it immediately take it to CarMax and have them rectify it. If he did know then just get some new ones. But installing some new ones is less than 300 and its not that hard

He took it back to CarMax. They confirmed the wiring is still there. They have ordered the parts. They’ll get installed in the next week or so. Thanks
