Aloha from Hawaii! I cross posted this in the new members forum too, so mods feel free to remove it's too much of a duplicate.....I'm a long time Jeeper (2001 TJ) but transitioning to a Tacoma since I'm tired of spending half my life at Autozone replacing Jeep parts and the other half of my life trying to diagnose death wobble. My brother is a long time Taco-enthusiast and when both his last Tacoma and my reached 150K miles at the same time, and he hadn't replaced anything and my Jeep had had multiple organ donors, I started to reevaluate my life's decisions....

I'm in negotiations with a dealer for a 2015 on the mainland, and would love a gut price check, especially given the used car prices right now and the always overpriced market in Hawaii.

2015 TRD Pro double cab, Inferno Orange, 78k miles (used from dealer, not CPO)

    $36277

    * brand new BF Goodrich AT KO2 (265/75R16) (putting them on now)
    * Katzkin leather seats
    * tennis-ball size dent on rear bumper
    * diff, transfer case, and transmission fluid changes have not been done for the life of the vehicle and dealer wont cover them (I would have thought differentials and transfer case should have been done by now)

    PORT OR FACTORY INSTALLED EQUIPMENT
3F TRD Performance Air Filter Port
    3P Paint Protection Film Port
CW TRD PRO Series Factory Credit Factory
    FE 50 State Emissions Factory
    TR TRD PRO Package Factory
TW V6 Tow Package for Off-Road Package Factory
V5 VIP-RS3200 Plus Security System Port

Going to cost me an extra $2K to get it to Hawaii and $2K in taxes, and trying to decide to go this route or a 2022 TRD OR locally for a few $k more.....

    Mahalo!

buying used without seeing in person isn’t comfortable for me. I know lots of people do it. Driving it, hearing it, looking everywhere inside and outside…

might be a great truck. Not something I do though.

I feel like I looked at this one a couple years ago in AZ. Similar dent in the bumper, lots of usage apparent inside. The worst part was glitter all over the interior.

That price is a little crazy but I guess that’s just todays market.

Too damn expensive for what it is. What’s a regular 14/15 TRD Sport or Off Road 4x4 (with similar mileage and wear & tear) going for in Hawaii?

Considering the "minimal" price differential between this truck and the 2022, I'd go with the '22. Warranty, zero miles, more bang and whistles, etc... And most importantly, no question about its history. If this 2015 was being offered for $10k less, including the shipping cost and taxes, then my answer would be different. But at $40k+ when it's all said and done, go with new.

Just my humble opinion. Either way, good luck OP!

I too would choose the 22’

FWIW, I’d rather see transmission fluid changed before the diff fluid.
At least drain and fill every 50k.

A lot of people never change the diff fluid, not until the axle seals leak, or the needle bearing “vibs”. - And here I am, talking a list myself again………

I place the blame partially on a plugged breather vent.
Hey, we all have excuses, right?
The trans fluid I have kept up with pretty well. And it can be a PITA to do “right”.

Nope, its a nice truck but that's a steep price plus shipping.

I'd rather have the new truck with warranty.

Thanks for the input all. I put in a couple requests for 2021 and 2021 Off-road in Honolulu and Southern California to see what the out the door would be. I'm partial to obnoxious colors, so like the 2021 (Voodoo Blue FTW!)

Just got off the phone with a dealer in SoCal, he said I should be expecting to pay $5-10K over MSRP for a 2022 Off Road.......so looks like maybe I'll be heading back to the Jeep forums for a while....

    keep calling around.

36k for a 6 yr old vehicle that has 78k miles sight unseen with damage.... that was brand new for 34-35k..... NOPE. Rear diff fluid never touched at 78k, get ready for a premature failure of pinion bearings which will take out the ring n pinion.

    This and that...
Hard to say if a 2nd gen is worth it in this market. I really happy with mine but it's possibly about 10k or more over when taxes and shipping are included, but that's before there was such a high demand and prices soared. Still I would weigh the difference and if you could get something easier and newer for slightly more. I would go for a newer engine with a better resale later on.

Sorry but as cool as that truck is, 36k is pure price rape. Once the market calms down on Tacoma you will have a truck that is instantly worth 10k-15k less then what you paid for it.

@VolcanoDog I just posted in the Pro thread to see what others say. That's a gorgeous truck, essentially bulletproof since it was the last of the 2nd gen and they had everything ironed out. I 100% love my 15 Pro. This is one of only 492 Infernos they made.
The price does seem steep, seems like I've seen clean ones come around in the low 30k range though I haven't keep too close of a watch since I'm not at all interested in letting mine go.
