I have a 2013 Tacoma. I just had the oil changed 500 miles ago and when I start the truck up it flashes maint reqd a few times then goes away. I first thought they had forgotten to reset the oil mileage after the oil change but that wasn’t it. Is there any other reason anyone can think of that it would be flashing? My battery has been leaking acid but is still reading good so not sure that would be it.

    Did you try to RESET?

    What process did you use?

I pressed the odometer to trip A. Turned ignition off and pressed and held the odometer reset

    Ok....

Did the Odometer read out flash the "-----" in a declining sequence then display the mileage?

If not, then the reset didn't happen.

Hold the odometer reset button down with the ignition off. Keep holding it down and turn the key to ON. The digits will show a bunch of lines and when done you can release it. That will just set a mileage counter back to 0. It will turn the maint light on again 5000 miles later.

I don't really bother with the maint indicator other than turn it off. If you can divide the thousands digits by 5 evenly, it's time for an oil change. I'm at 169,000 and will change my oil at 170,000.

That works unless your oil changes are off from being every 5,000 miles since new

Look up the reset procedure on yootube. Try either trip A or B until you see the hash marks (-------) counting down. When it flashes all zeros (00000) its reset

The oil change place is lazy or they forgot. Get the oil changed somewhere else next time

    I know.
Change it at less than 5000 miles but you better not post it here or you'll get slammed with horrible comments on how you're wasting oil.

@TnShooter ......thanks for the correction. The final display after the "-----" count down is "000000"

    I was mostly correct...... :anonymous:

Yeah.....this is another question where I resist the urge to say RTFM.

So much information on the truck operation is in the Owner's Manual.........

I taught my oldest daughter how to change a flat tire. Sure enough.....I get a call, "Dad. I have a flat. Will you come change it for me? I'm only a few miles away." My answer, "I taught you how to change a flat." Her response, "But I forgot." I said, "Look in the Owner's Manual for how. The manual is in the glove box. Bye" Oh she was mad at me for a couple days, but now she can change a tire.

Thanks every one for the help. I was not holding the reset long enough after I turned the engine on. It worked and fixed the maint reqd flashing. Thanks again

Change it at 5,001 miles and you've ruined the engine :D

What's the best oil to use in my Tacoma? Which filter is the best quality? Thanks in advance! I did use the search feature!

Vegetable Oil or Peanut Oil. Filter is simply a roll of toilet paper stuffed into the can.:rolleyes::facepalm::anonymous:

Why did I never think of that?! I may use fully synthetic and run lard next oil change. Charmin all the way for the filter.
