The landcruiser doesn't have a long hood.

Sounds about right. 4 wheel disc brakes, electronic parking brake. Will be interesting to see if Toyota hypes the rear discs, or if they don't say much about it. 10 speed auto only, no manual option for the market which the Tacoma is sold in. Toyota might design a manual for the TNGA-F Hilux market.

My thoughts exactly, looks like a mini tundra!

    Hey folks,

New to this forum. Did and search and just went through all 28 pages of this one. Wondering if anyone has been speculating about the next Tacoma's towing and payload capacities? We're considering replacing our current travel trailer with a larger and heavier one and our current Tacoma won't fit the bill. Does anyone think the next Tacoma will have a 9000 lb towing capacity?

A few quick Google searches say the new Frontier has the highest towing capacity in the midsize truck market at 7,000 pounds. Based on that, a 9,000 pound towing capacity seems unlikely for a vehicle in this segment.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. The new trailer's weight would be 5700 empty and 7300 full. I figured I'd want a TV with at least 9100 lbs capacity. Wishful thinking that Toyota will increase the towing capacity of the 4th gen Tacoma that much I guess.

Pretty sure the Ranger is 7500 and the Frontier was around 6700.

Good catch! When I said "quick Google search" I meant quick, haha... the first number that came up for the Ranger was 3500lb, but a little further down in the results it clearly says 7500 with the optional tow package.

You 100% need a full size for that size trailer

I saw a Ranger yesterday towing a large tandem axle flat bed trailer. Something that you would load construction equipment on. The truck was squatting a good bit. Trailer was mostly empty except for some potted tropical plants. This trailer looked huge hooked up to that Ranger.

This. Even if the towing capacity was increased by 1,000, it would still be close to the max. Toyota would also need to increase payload. Considering that Toyota doesn't consider towing a high priority for the Tacoma, I wouldn't expect a huge increase in capability in those areas. A 7,300 lb travel trailer is definitely a job for a full-size.

I didn't know the new frame was fully boxed? Is that true?

Hmmm? Can't wait to see it without the camo. Not a huge fan of the new styling on the Tundra. Hoping this will be a little more subtle.

I wonder if Toyota will experiment with composite bed sides or any other body panels on this new Tacoma? Toyota could introduce a composite roof panel that is removable.

I look at the new frontier and think "hmm i still like my tacoma better" then i look at this... then read about the tnga-f same frame bs and then think "fuck, i guess frontier would be the better choice if i were to get something new in the future". I dont want a mini tundra, this is a mini tundra, not even their camo can hide just how ugly that front end will be it might as well just be a tundra... If i wanted a full size truck id get one but i dont want a full size truck.

Based on the TNGA-F vehicles that have been released so far. I think there something that we can all be sure of.

Don't expect anything cool or revolutionary from Toyota. Tundra is not a game changer and neither are the LX600/Land Cruiser 300. Both the Tundra and LC300 are subject to intense competition.

The 4th gen Tacoma is going to be a slight improvement over what we have now. Same could be said for the LC prado/GX, Hilux/Fortuner and the 4Runner.

It's almost not worth speculating. The more hype is created, the more we will all be disappointed.

Can we talk through this a little. Size wise, I love the tacoma because the DCSB will fit practically anywhere if you live near a city. I have specifically avoided a full sized pickup for this reason. The new 2022 Tundra is 233.6" long, compared to a 3rd gen DCSB which is 212.3" long. For further comparison the 2nd gen DCSB is 208.1" long.

If the trucks are on the same platform, do we think the DCSB will get even longer? wider? Concerned that following the tundra means a big leap in overall size.

The most exciting part of the 4th gen taco is seeing what they are going to do with the powertrain. Seems likely they will do two turbo models, right? a 4 and a 6?
