Ran in to this problem changing the oil in my 3rd gen Saturday. The thin warn 0w20 comes out very fast when you pull the plug and splashed out of my drain pan which was a few inches deep. Good I had the driveway covered with cardboard. My last vehicle had a fumoto valve and I'd like to put one on but not sure how the dealer service department will act when I go for to included services but I'd like it since I've decided to go with 5k oil changes and will do it myself after toyotacare is over. I may but it on then.

I do like PlainJane taco's Dollar general container mod but how well would this work? it also comes in a larger square.

Thanks OP , Dollar tree run for a plastic bucket with handles. Trim the handles and base makes oil change less messy.

I had one of those round oil drain containers. The cap to empty for recycling began to leak. I tossed the round pan to replace it with a larger footprint rectangular pan. I removed the "vent" from the round pan and installed the vent in the new pan. The new pan has 2 drains to allow the oil to drain into the container. I've not had splash problems with this pan. The round pan....occasionally would have splash problems.

When draining I open both drains and the vent. The vent is mounted high on the side. Oil runs into the container as fast as it comes from the engine. When all is done, close the vent, close the 2 drains, wipe off oil, off to the recycler. In this state, IA, anyone who sells oil must accept used oil for recycling. I take my used oil to the local NAPA store.

BTW, your solution is more affordable than the fancy valve and no risk of shearing off while out playing in the rough.

Thanks fellas. I had forgotten that I even posted this up. I still have the container and use it every OC. In fact, I pretty much use it on all OCs with all my vehicles these days. Beats an oily floor.....or face!

A gallon milk jug also works. Cut the top and bottom off the jug. It also has a handle, which is nice.
