My father did something similar. He bought a 2019 and handed his 2003 down to me. I think he regretted that from day 1; he missed the 5 speed and smaller dimensions of the 2003, and never quite got used to the 2019. He ultimately traded it in for a Rav4 hybrid, although I suspect he still misses the 2003 tacoma. That said, I don't see him driving an 18 year old truck at this stage in his life. Fortunately it's still in the family and being well taken care of.

The Rav4 actually has more issues come up than any other Toyota model. Still better than another make, but it's not matching the dependability of the Tacoma. I'd still recommend one to my gf as her next vehicle when she's done with her 2014 Rav, and I love the look of them, but so far this generation of Rav's hasn't quite hit the dependability mark Toyota strives for.

Source: very large dealership with >200 vehicles serviced each day.

My wife has a '21 rav in lunar rock. Looks killer, and I just got back from driving it 11hrs away on our honeymoon. Awesome little car, plenty of power and comfy

The RAV4 and their competitors hold a large section of market right now. This neighborhood is full of them. My next vehicle is either a RAV or a Forester or Outback.

Lunar Rock was my first choice for color. Had to settle for silver (which I also like).

That's my new hobby. I can take pics of all the deer (and other things) I want and don't have to gut them or haul them. :)

I tried to talk my wife into a Rav4 but she ultimately went with a 4Runner...which was no real issue. Ha.

The Rav4 has always been such a sweet little suv. My dad used to work for Toyota corporate and had a new vehicle every few months. When I was a kid he brought home a 1st Gen Rav4 two-door. I thought it was one of the coolest cars I'd ever seen.

Throw some KO2s on one of the new ones and you've got a bad-ass little rig.

Yup, our other car is a 2016 RAV4 and honestly, we love it. Super comfortable, reliable, efficient, it's a great to complement to the Tacoma (we also have a 94 Miata for fun sunny day romps).

Variety is the spice of life, enjoy your new ride!

I’ll take you deer hunting. I’m not good with dead things but I’ll drive you both ways and wait for you in the truck.
