New guy at work just got off work probation and promptly bought a 2020 Sierra At4, it's gorgeous. Have to remind myself not to be envious, it's tough.

I used to go to a lot of auctions, dangerous places...
Got a lot of great stuff like the 1960 air compressor -- and also hauled home tons of crap too...:ballchain:

Says Rusty: ":) Hey, this is cool!" --- and later --- "WTH was I thinking...."

This isnt a fancy auction house, it's near my camp in BFE so I'm expecting some junk to be floating around. I can't wait.

So... some of you have mentioned powder coating which led me to miss my old set up. So now I have a new idea and need your brains to tell me if it's a feasible idea or not.

For the powder to cure, I need a chamber that can hold 400F for at least 20 minutes plus any additional time for preheating parts etc. In the past I used and old electric oven but in my current garage I don't have 220... so.. my brain says I can convert an older propane smoker I have into an oven. I have other and newer smokers that I use for food so it's not like I am losing anything there.

It's a single walled beast that wouldn't work as is. I feel like making it a double walled contraption with insulation in-between the walls to hold the heat in. I fell like eliminating the smokestack on top is a must as well. Some form of plate in the bottom to seal it and provide a barrier between the propane burners and the chamber. Some angle iron near the inside top to hold a shelf that the parts would hang from.

I guess my biggest questions is what to use for insulation between the panels, how to monitor the internal temp accurately and thoughts on the bottom plate thickness.

Thoughts, questions, comments and concerns are welcome.

You'll probably need some sort of insulation like they use in gas forges.

    A thing or two...
I've got an oil-filled heater like that's closer to 15 yr old. I used it for supplemental heat when I was living in NM where the houses that I rented had crap for insulation and crappy non-central heating. It works great. I haven't needed it much in the last 5 yrs since I moved out of NM, but it worked great last Dec when I was without the main heater in my house for about a week waiting for a new furnace.

Holy crap. What brand are the wheels?

If you going to go through the trouble of needing to make an insulated box, why not just build a box out of sheet metal and insulate the outside of it. Build a separate heater box with a fan and plum ducting in/out of opposite sides of the oven box. You can use 110V heaters and easily hit 400F continuous with the air recirculating. At my last job, we built ovens out of 2" foil covered rigid foam and aluminum tape with 110V heaters. The ovens were single use, and they'd max 400F. At those temps the foam inside the insulation and tape adhesive starts to cook. If you want it re-useable, I'd make the inside of the box out of sheet metal and put rockwool around the outside. You could build the heater box out of sheet metal and use fire bricks inside of it for thermal mass and to keep the outside from getting too hot.

Depends on what Brand some Alpo Flavors are quite good.

Having done work in different Food manufacturing plants over the years on average Pet Food plants seem to have higher standards then many of them were many years newer to be fair.

When I see that No user serviceable parts That is like a challenge to a duel !!

It might come down to being not able to find parts or any one who sells them.

After all it is not working what more damage can I do at that point.

Lots of fun going on around here today.
No luck filling deer tag this AM, but again spooked one out. Without any preparation to the area..like just a little clean up of sticks and tree branches at least...I imagine we sound like a herd of Buffalo walking in there.
Back at home, red neck engineering at its finest in a minute or so...not going to replace this clutch master cylinder and slave just yet. A little examination and I can see one issue is the clutch pedal not returning up all the way, and a bushing that's worn out. Bushing is where this fancy engineering comes in....Replacement radiator for my daughter's Jeep had extra fitting for trans cooler. I'll make a proper oil-lite soon but until then, this fitting after I cut it will be within thousandth of a inch from what I had drawn up to makeo_O

I guess like anything else all Cajun Food does not need to be so spicy it burns going in and coming out.

I grew up with no spicy condiments never smoked so catsup is about all I used If I was being really brave Honey Mustard but that was in my later years.

My work there's several of them, we'll including the GMC versions.
Just remember guys, they also have a price tag two time higher than our Tacomas.

Might be easier to put 220 to the garage. Good for welders, air compressors, etc too.
