The 50X1 is a full featured GMRS that’s repeater ready meaning you can use split tones for TX/RX. It’s also truck mounted and has 50W of power. The GMRS V1 is also BTec. And is the same full featured handheld. I have the v1 and it’s nice but a bit much for the average user. I have a desire to learn this stuff and it’s a bit complicated. But I like it.

Midlands are far easier to use for the average Joe. Most of us will never use repeaters. If you want a truck mounted, their micro mobile series is a higher wattage setup. Then you can get some handhelds to toss in the glovebox for out of vehicle spotting or coms.

midland is supposed to release a full 50 watt unit this spring with more features.

I meant the GMRSV1 vs the T71VP3, sorry. I'm just looking for a handheld frs right now, but I do plan on eventually adding a more powerful cab mounted GMRS in the future. I'll probably go with the midland handhelds for the ease of use. How have the midland handhelds held up so far? Do they have decent range and battery life? I wouldn't expect them to be too crazy at 2 watts, but have you ever tried them out at a mile or two?

Midlands handhelds are great. No issues. Mine can plug into a usb charger individually eliminating the need to bring the charging base. Super helpful. So I have 3 handhelds. 2 midland 1 Btech.

I’ll likely do the midland 50 watt when it arrives this spring.
