Hello all! New member here. Posting for the first time. I’m somewhat mechanically inclined however this issue has gotten me lost, I guess you can say. I’m sure it’s something hella easy and all y’all gonna laugh it out.

I have a 2005 regular cab. Recently my thermostat went out on me, heater went from blowing hot air to cold air and then engine temp rising, high…fast. I drained the coolant. Unplug the hose. Swap and replace the thermostat. Plug the hose back in. Refill the coolant. And start her up. Everything worked fine. Then a day or two later I noticed that all of the coolant leaked out. I couldn’t figure it out. Refilled the coolant only to notice it leaking totally somewhere where I was never near nor touched it. It was a wee bit lower than thermostat, kind of unreachable, without moving other components. My question is…what is this plug/nut and why would it be leaking from there. Please see pics.

Isn't that the notorious bypass pipe that is made of plastic and cracks? There's a updated metal pipe that's stronger.

Wait…what pipe? I was referring the leak to the red painted bolt…

Yes, that is the Bypass Pipe # 1, made of plastic and has since been replaced with a metal pipe and gasket.

Look closely at your leak which I think is the top flange bolt for the bypass pipe.

The intake manifold will need to be removed to get to the pipe. So you will need at a minimum a new Intake gasket, replacement pipe and a pipe gasket.

    Let me find the links:

    The leak:

This is the new steel pipe:

If you get the new steel pipe make sure they give you the correct gasket as it is different from the original plastic pipe that uses a rubber seal ring.

Right on guys! Thanks! Would this have been a recall item that I might have missed?

Finally got the part and have a buddy of mine installing it for me for hella cheap. I called th Toyota house and they wanted to charge over $600 with part included. Buddy of mine will do it for flat $200. I think I could do it myself I just don’t have the tools to be digging that deep.
