So my first seven year battery from Toyota crapped out within three years no cranking amps and 8 V to the battery. Went to Toyota on Saturday bought a new battery put it in by the truck up and took it for a long ride get it charged up.

didn’t go nowhere on Sunday went out this morning the truck was totally dead no lights no nothing
Put a jump pack on wouldn’t even help
Put the battery charger on for three hours at fired right up went and got my alternator tested which is only two months old and the battery tested which is only two days old and everything tested out perfect the input the output of the alternator all the numbers were there anyone have any suggestions

Suspect there is some excessive parasitic draw.

    or

Possibly a bad cell in the battery.

    or

    something in the start circuit

Isn't there some way to use a clamp multimeter on the positive battery cable to know how much draw there is when everything is off? There's always going to be some small amount, but if a brand new battery discharges over a weekend then it would be pretty obvious.

Clamp types may not be sensitive enough to detect a parasitic draw.

Best to wire the Ammeter in-line with the battery and the cable.

You have some sort of parasitic draw. There is a way to test your fuse box to find the system drawing power when the vehicle is off but I dont know the specifics.

You can set a multimeter on dc amperage. Disconnect the negative post and place one lead on the post and the other on the terminal. I believe that you shouldn't be getting anything above .03 amps. If you do then you have a parasitic amp draw.

A simple test is to set a test light with one end to the negative disconnected battery post and the other to the terminal lead. Now remove each fuse and check to see if the light goes out. The n it does you can narrow that down to the guilty circuit.

I will do that in the morning
I have no mods, the only thing that I did was in the fuse box underneath the hood I took out the 10 amp air conditioner fuse because my compressor completely crapped out

That’s when all this started I cannot say that is the culprit there is no way in hell that is the culprit but after it died again tonight I had them check the alternator and the battery which is brand new on Saturday from Toyota
Alternator tested perfect battery tested perfect which it should’ve
Denso Alternator 3 weeks ago. As mine was still OEM with 225,000

I’ll break out my meter in the morning and I’ll test the battery voltage before I do anything

All good advice here. However, it should be stated that some modules don’t go to sleep for a set amount of time after the ignition is turned off, the door , the truck, or hood has been opened/closed, or an evap test is in progress.

The good news is, the 2nd Gen trucks don’t have many modules. About the only thing to watch for is an evap test.

I believe Bishop is a Toyota Tech.
Here is what he said once before on the 2nd allowance for current draw.

@Dm93 has a good explanation here

So update on my electrical issue for some reason the winch on my front bumper started drawing 10 A at all times so we disconnected that for now and my truck is working as normal and charging as normal just have to investigate why my winch is always pulling 10 Amps

    OOOOOmmmpppphhhhh......10A o_O

That's a pretty serious pull on a battery, especially over several hours or days.

Is this the main wire (big wire) that is causing the draw. A lot of guys run a cut off switch between the battery and winch.

    Awesome.

Pics of this unicorn factory winch please!!

Also, pics of the '7 year battery', or paperwork declaring such. That's a pretty rare item too!

If I can figure out how to load it, a trustart battery from the end of 2019, dated 02/11. It still tested good but, when it went bad, it went quickly.

Well I added a pic that won’t delete.

Rare indeed. I could look at 200 batteries before finding 1 that old.
