What kind of amp should I be looking at for this setup?

I have Memphis speakers although not sure on the model etc. I got them awhile ago all I can remember is one of the pairs is 6x9.5.

Obviously the sub isn't installed yet, which I want to get done ASAP. I don't know what kind of amp I'm going to need to support the rest of my setup. Any thoughts?

 

Are you just going to be amping your sub, or your speakers as well?

 

for the sub, get a class-D mono amp that matches the rms on your sub. also, make sure the amp is CEA compliant. Kenwood makes good stuff at a good price.

 

Thanks for the responses. I'm brand new to this stuff, so I'm not sure. Can I use the amp for both my speakers and sub or will I need two seperate ones? If possible, I'd like to amp my speakers also to get them louder.

 

its better to amp them seperate, but you can run everything off one amp. you just need a multiple channel amp with enough watts to power all your speakers. i only have my sub connected to an amp. my head unit powers my door speakers nicely so i didnt amp them.

Is it possible to have too much power in an amp? That seems like a pretty serious amp for a single 10", although I don't know shit. Would it be able to blow my sub to hell? Also, would this amp be able to support my speakers also?

 

Well you bought a sub that needs 800W rms. That's a lot of power, therefore it needs a powerful amp. And no that will only power your sub. If you wanted an amp that would run all your speakers and your sub, you need a sub that runs off less power, ie one that only needs 300-400w rms. Ok thanks. I decided that for now I'm not going to run an amp into my speakers. They're already pretty damn loud. With the right bass I will be very happy

 

Actually the sub CAN run 3000w for short periods, but should be run at 800w for regular use. It's not going to sound good with only 300w running to it, the sub will barely be moving, especially those champ pro's, they love lots of power. Your truck only needs about 50hp to move around so why do they stuff a 236hp v6 in it?

 

I'm not sure you fully comprehend the logarithmic scale or at least how it pertains to decibels. Feeding that speaker 800 watts, in a proper enclosure and in a vehicle, wouldn’t sound good either. As a matter of fact, what you’d be experiencing is hearing damage. Hooking a speaker up to an 800 watt amplifier does not automatically mean it is drawing 800 watts from the amplifier. 800 watts is the MAXIMUM continuous rating that Pioneer recommends for that speaker. You can easily power that sub with an amp half as powerful (or even 25%) and still manage an incredible sounding sub as long as everything is operating properly.

Another (but more simple) analogy would be the maximum tire pressure listed on your tire. There are many people who actually inflate their tires to this maximum pressure believing that this is what one is supposed to do. It's a dangerous and misinformed practice.

It'll run 750 watts @ 2 ohms. Hifonics makes a great amp for the price. Make sure the amp is stable at 2 and 4 ohms so you can wire it in parallel or series. One 2 ohm sub running in parallel will run at 2 ohms, in series at 4 ohms. 2 subs will run at 1 ohm in parallel and 8 in series, and so on. Less ohms=more power=more

Does your box match the specs for that sub?

I don't like having to hawk over an ebay bid personally. Discount Jungle had my HiFi1500D in my hands in 3 business days flat with standard shipping. You can't get much better than that.

 

Some sells on ebay aren't bidding. People base their stores on ebay to find buyers but have a fixed price on their merchandise

 

Yeah, I'm with you on that one, but the only buy it now product in that link (that I saw) was a 6000 watt JBL amp.
