It's also keyed to the roll, so I get to cut the belt apart, pull the entire roll, and make a new shaft. Here's hoping the endmill is sharp!

I just dropped my kid off at a class. There's a police car in the parking lot and the officer has gloves on and is looking through a vehicle.

    I have some entertainment tonight!

    The flashlight just came out.

Could try weld build up and turn that one back down. Just a thought. Weld lengthwise beads 180° out from each other work your way around.

I'd probably sneeze on something, my DNA would be found on it and I'd end up in jail.

I thought about doing that, but it would probably take me longer to do that than it will to make the keyways on a new shaft.

Its worth mentioning I've never used an endmill before... and our milling machine is all manual. It's a 1/2 in keyway and I've found five 1/2 in two flute endmills. We'll see if AVE and this old tony have taught me enough to make it through this.image.jpg

I got one at work a customer welded, if I remember I’ll post pictures tomorrow. It’s on an old cane mill

I always touch my end mill to the shaft and get it to where it’s touching/cutting full width before going half the depth of the key, just in case you didn’t know. Not trying to tell you what to do

No better time to start. Got edge finder? If not there's other tricks to get you on center.

Nope, sure don't. I figure between a plumb bob and my eyeball I can probably get it close enough for a BFH and grinder to do the rest.

Got a longer dowel pin or something to touch on the side of the part? Raise up and go diameter of pin should put you in ballpark to edge, zero again and go half shaft diameter.

Edit, HALF DIAMETER OF PIN, sorry

And since going full 1/2" width right away, and possibly not the best EM, could go less than half depth. Few passes. Speed Kills a old timer used to tell me. Dial caliper depth of keyway on old shaft, generally they're 1/2 key width so .250 in this case but that's not always true.

He's still looking the vehicle over.

    No handcuffs yet, though.

Possible correction - there might already be someone in the backseat of the police car. It's too dark so I can't tell for sure.
