OAL was 2.8 Didn't get a base to ogive on it though, comparator insert is missing. worked up from Berger load data. Their data is pretty conservative.

No worries. I fixed some grammar and some broken sentences on that last post, but it looks like you picked up what I was saying.

I would need what the jam is with the same bullet brass combo on that barrel. That’s the only helpful starting point when talking about oal. This is because your issue is at seating depth.

You’ll need something like a hornady oal gauge with a modified case. Once you do that, you can see if manufactures have sample bullets, so you can do some experimenting. Personally I think SMK are a little outdated but they sometimes have a shorter base to ogive.

I've got the OAL gauge just need to get a modified 6.5 case or make one. 6.5 is my fun rifle so I don't have as much set for it like I do for my competition rifle.

made up a shell that would work. base to ogive jammed was 2.154. will have to get a true dummy case to be sure. this was quick general reference stuff

It should be workable. The coal, measured from base to ogive with a 130 Berger VLD for your cartridge in question is somewhere at 2.080 on average…obviously that’s an average, and not data, but it tells me you’re in the ballpark..

Does anyone have any experience reloading for the 30 carbine? Just wondering if there’s any tricks or suggestions. I think I’m going to load some up this weekend.

I have done a few of them. If you have loaded pistol rounds before it is pretty much just the same thing with a little longer shell casing. Size the brass, give it just enough of a belling to prevent shaving of the bullet jacket, primer and powder, then seat the bullet with just a slight bit of crimp to snug the belled end back against the bullet.

Headspacing off the mouth sucks. Trim length is critical.

Finally got my reloading shed set on a foundation and got a Lee Loadmaster in .223 ordered through work so I decided to get some stuff from in-line fabrication.
I’m pretty excited to get everything going, pretty happy with my 6.8 loads and .223 62 grain gold dot loads, I need to get more powder so I can do some pistol loading and experiment with 9mm subs.

Having any luck finding powder? I love the in-line fabrication stuff too. I have a riser with the quick change mount. I recently got another press and loving the quick change system.

I thought primers were the hardest component to find. at least around where I live, there as scarce as hens teeth. I've held off reloading until I see if the manufacturers are going to catch up with demand.Once my primers are gone, that's it, no more reloading. If I would have known things were going to get this bad, I would have purchased 10k of each small and large pistol primers.

    Depends.

If you’re looking for just reloading components to make round go boom, then yes primers are harder to come by. The guy you quoted, I'm not sure his situation…but life is easier if you know a guy or 3.

If you hand load to a very tight recipe and for maximum precision then certain powders like varget and h1000 and a few other were hard to get well before covid. So, in that sense, specific powders are hard to find. Somethings just work.

Primers have been almost impossible for me to find locally. They are out there online but they are at premium pricing on top of the hazmat fee I always hate paying when I do break down and order them or powder.

Magnum small rifle primers have been popping up on Brownell's site every couple days lately, I've made it as far as putting them in my cart but haven't been willing to pay the price on them yet hoping I might score some locally with a better price and no Hazmat. I'm sure once I work through all the .223 brass I have on my bench and deplete my current supply a bit more I will be a bit more than willing to open my wallet though.

    Speaking of supplies,

I talked with some people I know at Hodgdon, and the price is expected to go up more or less 15% around 2022. As a result of inflation estimation. Just in case anyone is confused on the situation, or expecting it to “get better.”

You might be waiting a while.
