I’ve only bought new wheels once in 1993 for a Chevy S10 & I got American Racing Outlaw 2’s in silver. I liked the look, but in time they kinda corroded under the clear coat around the lug nuts & where the wheel weights were installed/removed. I’ve thought about getting the same wheel, but in black for my MGM Tacoma. Will I have the same issue down the road or has that changed in 25+ years? Do some brands not have that clear coat? Also, I was thinking I’d try to find a lighter wheel because I know the tires will be heavier when I upsize them. Any recommendations on that? i hope to drive this truck 15 years, so any info is appreciated…

Some are still clear coated. Any wheel will only last as well as it is maintained. Luckily now there are some great products that can be applied to wheels to help with this. I’ve never worried about weight , if I like them I buy them.

Thanks, I’ll hafta research how to maintain the clear coat if I go that route. I haven’t ever seen in the descriptions if wheels are clear coated or not. Is there any way to tell other than maybe calling the manufacturer? The weight won’t be a deal breaker, but these trucks aren’t that powerful, so I hate to make it worse.

Look up ceramic coatings to protect your wheels. So for the lightest wheels, it’s going to cost a pretty penny (volk racing). Plenty of people have ran a ton of brands you can’t go wrong with. If you like it, rockit!

I’m too tight to go super expensive on wheels, so I’ll hafta dial that back probably. I’ve been shocked at wheel prices since I’ve started shopping. I haven’t seen what they cost because they’re out of stock, but I saw the Ray 10’s have a similar look to the Outlaw 2’s I like and only way 21.5 lbs. That should help with weight going from the standard steel wheels it came with. I only intend to go up to 265/75/16 tires. I had ceramic tint put on my windows and I’ve recently been reading about ceramic for the body, but I had never heard of ceramic coating wheels. Ijust did some googling and think that’s probly the way to go. Thanks much for that info.
