Deer hunting BS thread

This deer season was about filling the freezer. Both in opening week with a Cooper M54 .250 savage. Will add a couple of does in December.

Yeah, a bit warm. Only been below freezing 2 or 3 nights this fall. We have shot 6 bucks off the farm this year with these being the smallest, so it's been a good year so far. Will probably shoot 4 or 5 doe by the end of the season. It's been a good year for us. Seems to be bouncing back from CWD.

 

been hunting alot this week. we have one on camera that is active but no one can get on him,this was yesterday as i hunted the other mountain.

Snagged one yesterday

 

we have to weigh each deer and pull a jawbone for VDGI. were in a management program. anyway weighed my son’s this year before dressing it. 210 on the nose. VDGIF has a formula to get dressed weight. bucks weight plus 17lbs times 17%. 210+17x17%. 38.5 lbs. 210-38.5 =172lbs dressed.

Is this statewide? I’m taking deer season off this year but hadn’t heard this.

 

No, we are in a Quality Deer Mangement program for large tracts of land thru VDGIF. they chart kill weight,age (jawbone)to know the health of the herd,age of the deer and tell us how many Does to take for the capacity of the land. we are our own check station. turn everything in at the end of the season. game biologist analze our kills and send us a report on it.our land is surounded by other large tracts that are also manage in the program so its a huge area of good hunting. just guessing the buck pictured is 4 1/2-5 1/2 but never has had the rack to go with it. so he was on the hit list. was with a younger deer with bigger rack but let it walk. that one will be real good next year

 

Gotcha! I wish we could do that, but too many people want to say “I killed a deer”. The if it’s brown it’s down rule applies too much.

He is one of those thats pretty much nocturnal.shows up in trail cam pic then two days later is on another mountain 2 miles away. its the only daylight pic weve had.

We think it’s 3 yearlings that just got kicked off. I believe caught mum on Wednesday
