My tacoma was built in august of 2021 and already has signs of a decent amount of rust. Will be taking into the dealership on Wednesday.

Any common occurrences in these same spots?

I haven’t gone under water with it or anything.

I live in SoCal and the weld joints on my exhaust and parts of drive shaft show lots of surface rust.

Where it is rusting in the front are just your cv axle housings, that is nothing to be concerned about. As for the rear it looks like it's just the spacer for the axle housing flanges to bolt in the axle shaft assemblies. They are both common areas to rust especially the rear axle spacer and it honestly doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary it is just surface rust. Chances are when you go to the dealer for it they will tell you the same thing. Plus I bet if you go take a look under the other Tacoma's they have on the lot I'd be willing to bet you will see them having similar surface rust in the same areas. Even if they do replace them for one reason or another, expect the surface rust to reappear on the new parts.

None of that is frame/body rust. Personally I wouldn't even take the time of day to go to the dealer about it but I get where you're coming from.

Totally normal. You are reading the forum too much and panicking over absolutely nothing.

That's just surface oxidation, completely normal. Nothing to worry about.

    Where?

What you show in the pictures is the smallest amount of surface rust. Nothing that can be done about surface rust other than totally sealing it from moisture and the atmosphere (aka paint, powder coat, fluid film, etc, etc.) It is totally normal and harmless. Any vehicle will have it to some extent as well

Normal on those components what the op is seeing, they aren't an issue. Its the frame/undercarridge itself you want to rust proof if living in the salt belt.

those items are raw cast steel/iron, not painted, coated or protected. you can spray them with a rust inhibitor, like fluid film, woolwax, cosmoline, rust stop etc... but because they are not coated, you will need to treat these yearly, or more. dont use a rubberized undercoating... there is a big difference in corrosion protection and undercoating. lots of us use fluid film yearly on everything that isnt the exhaust, brakes, or tires. you just invested in a 40,000+ vehicle, if you want to make it last, you need to help it last, by the way you care for it. Honestly I didn’t think they would do much anyways. Doesn’t appear that the warranty is mentioning those parts. More for frame correction if I am correct.

I know it can be alarming to see rust anywhere on a new vehicle, especially a Tacoma, but you have nothing to worry about. Enjoy your truck!

If you hit them with cosmoline you won't need to recoat them for a long time. I sprayed cosmoline on them in my truck....their still perfect as i sprayed them 1 1/2 years ago....same for the rest of the undercarriage.
