Got my 21 TRD SPORT 4X4 about 6 months ago. Looking into a lift in a couple months. Found a place that is doing a 4inch BDS Lift w/ Fox shocks charging 3.6k w/ install and alignment. Is that overpricing? I would want to do it myself but I'm not really confident enough in myself to do so without messing something up. Although I want the 4 inch, I am hesitant on them cutting into the frame when I hear horror stories about losing warranty. I am open to a 3 inch if anyone can recommend a good kit. Lastly anyone know of a video/forum explaining struts, spacers, coilovers, and things along those lines?? I'm trying to educate myself but when I see these in forums I get confused. Thanks in advance.

What do you want to do? Offroad? Fast dunes? Slow crawl? Big tires and keep it clean (no judge, but be honest)

We can help you but we need to know your goals.

4" lifts are never ideal. You may as well go 6" and slap 35's on. Tacoma 2-2.5" is the sweet spot for lifts and choices.

Exactly what I was going to ask and say.

Also this website has a lot of good information: https://accutuneoffroad.com/articles/#shocks--coilover-tech

Thanks for the response man, uh tbh not so much off-roading even though I really want to. Its just where I live it doesn't really exist. I've moved to the more mean aggressive look. Hoping to put some 33's on the truck.

Just remember once you cut out the cross member it’s gone. IMO 2-2.5” lift nice tire/wheel combo and call it day.

Do they chop with the 3 inch? Or is it only 4 and above?

Thanks! I’m running fox 2.5s on the front and icon rxt leaf pack on the rear.
I’m close to 2.5” of lift on the front. technically, I could go to 3” of lift but it will affect the performance of the shocks. I’m running 33” tires really happy with my setup

4” and above on the 4wd models. There is a 4” steering knuckle for 2wd.

Great advice here OP. There’s a lot more than just slapping on a lift. Really research your end goal and lift accordingly knowing all the issue that may arise.

Thanks man! Honestly yeah I feel like I am rushing into it a bit. The main thing I wanted was the whole tire/rims/lift setup, so I feel like that's why I'm so In tune to doing it. When people do explain the whole package deal when it comes to suspension I do get lost in their words so I definitely see your point. I will definitely keep digging and doing my research! And since this is my first forum I will keep you guys updated on what I end up doing whenever I do it! Thanks bro

That’s what all us oldies are for OP. Always feel free to ask away. I’ve been playing with trucks forever and never mind passing on any knowledge I may have. Keep us posted and welcome!!
