Exact issue I'm having now! Just replaced the tweeters and...WOAH, does it "amplify" the poorness of the rest of the stock!

I'm likely gonna go with the OP and grab Kicker all around (6x9 & 6.75) - can't wait to hear channel 23 then!

I saw a similar mention earlier (unless of course you amplify them...).
I'm planning my front 6x9 install this Friday. I did grab some sound dampening, but wondering if it's worth the trouble...any insight is appreciated!

If I do decide to rip out the vapor barrier, is it worth trying to do so carefully and re-using it after the sound dampening...or just cut it and grab some new plastic sheeting to make a new one?

I sound deaden one door yesterday and reattached the stock vapor barrier over the newly installed deadening material just because I wanted to but it doesn't make any sense at all, imo

    Thanks!
I decided to not deaden...just returned it and now have 50 bones to use some other way.

The Kicker 6x9s sound SIIICK, by the way!
Very happy I did that upgrade

I have a 21 pro will those speakers work for me too? You won't have to replace the amp? Is it plug n play?

    @MrGooch
As long as you do NOT have the JBL setup, this should all be plug and play. I'm not sure why the JBL stuff is different, but from all the talk on here, it is a big deal. I have a 21 TRD OR (non-JBL)...and it worked perfectly.

That said, it's best to buy everything from Crutchfield because they include the front 6x9 & rear 6.5 brackets and wiring harnesses for free...if you're doing both...that equates to almost $70. I was SUPER pleased with them.

Based on the low power of the factory HU, I opted to only replace the front 6x9s and tweeters for now...and did that without adding an amp. Down the road, I may punch up the output, and add the rears...but for me, this made sense.

If you're like me, it's been a MINUTE since you were ripping door panels off and installing a system! YouTube is awesome for how to go about doing all this.

    Good luck man!

Yup, they are only mostly for some filler for the passengers. The sound stage should be from the front, but it is also personal preference as some like that surround sound type of sound rather than rock concert from the front stage

I’m not sure, but if the 6MT Pro follows a the same configuration as true TRD OR 6MT, it will have non-JBL Premium sound.

I just got done upgrading all my speakers and I wish I had read through this entire posting before ordering. The upgrade is a huge improvement as has been stated. I would not have spent the money to replace the rear speakers in my double cab though. They are terribly underpowered by the factory radio and the sound output on them is very low to the point of being quiet.

The only other thing that frustrated me was the "sail panels" on the four doors and the plastic retainers. Pulling the panels off was easy, but the retainers remained in the door and I foolishly left them there on three of the panels when putting the panels back in place. This caused the cheap retainers to be pushed into the door and fall down inside the door. So now I need to order a few spare retainers to replace all the missing ones. On the last panel, I pulled it off, then carefully pulled out the retainers and placed them back on the panels before re-installing. Didn't lose a one that time.

Here is what I installed, all from Crutchfield, ~ $240 with tax.

    Metra 72-8110 Speaker Wiring Adapters
    Metra 72-8104 Speaker Wiring Adapters
    Metra 82-8146 Speaker Mounting Brackets
    Metra 72-8109 Speaker Wiring Adapters
    Metra 82-8148 Speaker Mounting Brackets

Live and learn regarding those white clips.

I covered the holes with electrical tape and then cut a small slit. This will help keep them from falling inside the door the next time you pull those little panels off for the next mod requiring your door panel to be removed.

We live and learn!! But glad you're enjoying it even if the rear ones didn't do much for you. Typically they are just for the passengers or rear fill as mentioned. I've thought about replacing my front door speakers but am pretty happy so far just with the tweeter replacement and the powered subwoofer I added. Not sure if it's really worth it to do the front door speakers

on the rear door speaker wire adapter# 72-8109, did you notice the wire female connectors were reversed for the pos/neg speaker terminals? I thought they were plug n play and didn't pay attention to the color of wires and just attached which ever way so that both fit on properly. But found out later the speakers were out of phase.

I used these on a '20, don't know if it's my model or Metra had the wiring messed up.
Yeah, I understand the stock radio don't put out much for the rear doors but I added the Key amp and still the rear doors did not shine(nor the front speakers).

I added an amp without knowin my rear speakers were out of phase and my system still didn't sound full so to say. I swapped the rear speakers wiring to fix the out of phase and sound deaden the inner and outer door panels and it really made a difference. Prior I had hardly any mid bass and with the fix and deadning i have more mid bass, it made a difference. Not saying it's going to work for you but it did in my case

Was looking into doing the front door speakers as I recently did the subaru tweeter upgrade and put in a little powered sub. Should I just replace with a 6.5 speaker and not a 6x9? I don't need the bass from a 6x9 as I put in the little sub. Is that the correct way to go about it?

Dealers choice, won't make too much of a difference especially if you don't plan on adding a Amp to the door speakers.

My thinking of was for SQ. Maybe it would produce a better mid and high with the 6.5 since I don’t need extra bass from the 6x9. I will not be adding any more equipment besides just the door speaker. Is it not worth it to upgrade the door speakers in the front only? I thought this thread said it made a difference

Oh it will make a difference over stock speakers for sure. You just may not notice a difference between 6x9 or 6.5 until amplified. I personally went with 6.5 myself

Okay. I think you’re missing what i am trying to do. I added a sub and amp. I don’t need extra bass. That is why i was thinking 6.5 over a 6x9. There’s 6x9s in the door to add bass because stock stereo doesn’t have a sub. But i do. The 6.5 will be mids and highs and a 6x9 will have mids, highs and lows. There should be a difference
