Its great you like to waste money. When mine dies I will replace it. I carry a jumper pack in my truck and have never once in 30 years of driving been stranded by a battery.

You can look at it that way and you would not be wrong I guess. But being ex-military (submarines), I look at things a little differently. It is ingrained in my psyche to replace critical components before they fail, not after. And like I said before, we really are talking chump change here if you amortize the cost of the battery over it's anticipated service life.

I don't know my FJ Cruiser had a 7 year original battery before it started to show any signs of dying. Ended up replacing it with an odyssey 34 PC-1500t. It was awesome! Swapped it to my brothers 4runner when I crashed the FJ. Still going strong 3 years and 3 winters later. I just picked up an Optima yellow top H6 which is going strong so far. But definitely go AGM. Get a voltage booster fuse though. Helps keep it charged better.

Sure $40/year with a 5 year replacement isn't terribly expensive......but if that same $200 battery will last 6 year, then the cost drops to $33/year.....at 7 years the cost falls again <$29.

I wouldn't consider the battery as a critical component. Its really more of a disposable component that is easily replaced by many others. Now, a piston would be considered a critical component or a differential gear. Because when these fail, they take other parts with them and they are specific to the vehicle.

Replace as you wish. Me....I'll sit tight until it fails. My current battery is deep into its 6th year. Will it survive until Spring, I'll find out in time.

All my vehicles get Walmart, Everstart batteries when a replacement is needed. This included a plow service vehicle and a van fleet vehicle and a handful of family grocery getters. Never had to replace one under a warranty, so i guess thats what sold me.

As long as you acknowledge the mistake and apologize for it I can be the bigger person and overlook this offense.

    You're welcome. :D
