The Sawyer (on the left) is a 20-60 (20 at the drawbar, 60 on the belt pulley) and the Case is a 15-45. Because a double-acting steam engine has a power stroke, every stroke in both directions, while the horsepower numbers are low, the torque figures are off the chart. There are some great videos on YouTube of steam traction pulling ridiculously heavy loads; those engines will climb a 45 degree grade!

There's a great video on YouTube of a JD 5090 hitch-to-hitch with a (IIRC) ~50hp Gaar-Scott. The guy on the JD mashes the throttle and starts pulling the steamer backward, then the guy on the steamer slowly opens up the throttle, and in about 10' starts pulling the JD (still going balls-to-the-wall forward) backward, and in about 25' the JD has the rear drives buried to the hubs, still going backward, and the steamer doesn't break a sweat!

welp. bought and paid for a 5c collet chuck for my lathe (L0 spindle) on November 12. Still haven't seen it, and the dude will not respond to eBay messages. I got eBay involved, but I'm really hoping the chuck shows up. I know ill get my money back from eBay (hopefully) but i really wanted that chuck!
