Just got back from the dealer, not very happy with Toyota,my new tacoma with 2500 miles sounds like a diesel,Dealer says that is normal injector noise, if so Toyota needs to do something.$50.000 and ashamed to drive my truck, pull into bank drive thru,I was asked what is wrong with my new truck, very unhappy, owned Toyota all my life, NO PROBLEMS, I'm a journeyman mechanic 30 years.this noise is not normal, maybe time to talk to a lawyer !!??

My 2021 (6 Cylinder) was a little loud (out of what I think of as normal range for noise) with injector noise, but has since settle down quite a bit...maybe post a video of the vehicle running and let some of the guys/gals on this site give it a listen.....I'd be willing to bet there are quite a few mechanics on this site that can give you a pretty strong opinion. Good luck with your 'Taco!!

Could you post a recording of the “diesel” sound just to compare? I had the same kind of thing on my new 2018 (sounded like a power stroke I thought) and over time that sound disappeared. Nice and quiet now.

The truck is still breaking in. It should settle down after 10,000 miles.

Direct Injected engines tend to be quite noisy compared to Port Injected engines due to the mechanical high pressure pump and the injectors opening and closing under high pressure.
Manufacturers try to quiet them as much as possible with foam padding around the high pressure fuel system but they still make noise.

That being said if you post a video clip of your noise I'm sure the members here can tell you if it's normal or not.

lol good luck with all that, it actually is normal for these trucks. It does not quiet down after 10K miles as some have said, I am almost near 70K on mine an it still does it and still just as loud but it doesn't bother me. I had been questioned if my truck was a diesel once, I LOL'd at that too.

Who are you to say it isn't normal? Being a journeyman mechanic for 30 years doesn't mean squat, just showing your ignorance is all.

If you bothered to search around on here you would have seen that there is already a lot of threads covering this.

The noise you're referring too is the fuel injector self cleaning cycle that cycles on and off when the truck is idling. So yeah when pulling up an idling in drive-thru's, ATM's etc it will come on and it will be somewhat noisy.

If you don't like it trade it in for something else. I heard Tesla's are pretty quiet.

I bet the test drive unit was noisy too.

    Enjoy your truck!
