Oh. I goggled it, but I didn't really see any technical info, I should have youtubed it instead...

If you're referring to the rear locker, then, yeah... Except it's not a limited slip, it's a locker. I also lose ABS with it engaged. It also is only usable in 4lo under 5mph. Which severely limits it's use cases. That said, I've used it a few times, but only when there's a chance of getting stuck. I find 4lo to be way more useful than the rear locker, though I'm getting that itch to replace it with a more capable rear. I would like a clutch-style rear LSD that leaves the electronic locker functional, but... I don't have the space to swap rear-ends where I'm at.

I paid about $3k for my ‘14 and have owned since new. I have under 50k miles and no problems at all. I’ll keep it forever no matter how cool it is.

Haha no worries. I was under the impression you had a LSD since you have a 2007. Hence the jab about it being nanny tech.

I agree lockers are useful to have, even if it’s not used often. Better to have a tool and not need it than the other way around.

I should probably update my profile with TRD Off Road 4.0 6MT lol

I've used mine mostly just to understand how it works, and when to use it. 4LO, on the other hand, has been an absolute godsend. I did a 3 hour long drive on Saturday, and almost half of it was in 4LO first gear going up a very fun, steep mountain climb.

I enjoy watching the Chicago Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician's YouTube videos, as he explains when to replace things, and to always ask the mechanic when replacement is suggested, "Why?"
Rear drum brakes? They last forever, and it's a simpler design, "Don't fix it if it ain't broke!"

However, I am going to install the RedLine Tuning hood strut QuickLIFT ELITE kit on the 2009 Access Cab... the hoods, like the rest of the Toyota trucks (in the US at least) have grown bigger and heavier. It may have Bluetooth, but I enjoy not dealing with telephones and having any excuse not to, especially while I'm watching what's going on outside the truck. I'm not popular, just well-known...

Like what OP said there’s is so much 3 gens around! So it’s harder to stand out. I like being unique and still be a head turner

2nd gen is far superior in several ways. Looks, power, and simplicity. Don't get me wrong, the 3rd gen Tacoma is a great truck, especially when compared to other manufacturers, like Honda!!! (Side note, I work for Honda, DO NOT BUY A NEW ONE!!! GARBAGE!!!) But when it comes down to it, I prefer the 2nd gen by far!!! They look better, especially the grill!! The new 3.5 liter V6 makes it noticeably under powered. All the new electronics are unnecessary and just allow for more things to fail. Simple is safe!! So to answer the question, "Are our trucks still cool?" The answer is definitely YES!!! They look cool, perform great, and last forever!! What else could make it cooler??

Definately, I miss my 2nd gen. When the market comes back to reality ill be on the prowl for a 12-15 TRD DCLB. For my travelling my 21 does everything great but the 2nd gens are timeless in my opinion. With the additional electronics on my 21, I cant imagine it being a good vehicle 10+ years down the road.

I think you could easily argue that the popularity of the 3rd Gen is attributable to the reputation and capability of the 2nd Gen. I'll also argue that this association is partially why the 3G's have so many complaints about them - the new trucks have some big shoes to fill.

Every single 3G truck has been sold because the buyer believed that the 3G was a continuation of the Tacoma legacy in some way or another - be it reliability, off road capability, resale value, good looks, and as such, the 3G's performance in those categories are measured against it's direct predecessor.

With that said, I'd close my argument by saying driving a 2nd Gen Tacoma, the truck that set the bar for the entire North American pickup truck market as we know it today, is still pretty cool

Cool nah not really. once it becomes a classic truck then yes, till then it’s just a truck that’s hella fun.
