-New Here- I need help deciding DCBLB or DCSB

OP, assuming you want an automatic transmission as you cannot get the off-road limo Tacoma (DCLB) with the manual transmission.

 

Just by a taco, ya can’t go wrong

I'm 6'2.5" with a sunroof and I still have inches above me. You might assume I have the gangster lean going on, but I actually have a carseat behind me (that's a story for a different forum). Unless you have superb posture while driving, I'd reconsider the reality of your experience while in your buddy's truck. Plenty of room, but maybe not if you are overweight and tall, and used to a full-size. As for the bed...you can fit plenty in a DCSB. If you stretch out while sleeping, either way your legs will touch the tailgate. Tailgate down, either will work in that case. Plenty of threads on here about this - follow your heart, my dude.

I like the long beds because I carry lots of fishing and camping gear…two 151 qt coolers, propane tank, portable toilet and it’s shelter, at 10 gallons water, sleeping cots, sleeping bags ,stove lantern,chairs at least 3 folding tables(6’)…50 lbs of fishing leads, one sinker for my Ulua pokes weights 9 oz with wire anchors..

My Son has a 2016 SB…he carry’s only half of what I bring…he likes to rough it more…just the other week he mention he wants a Tundra…because the short bed is getting too small….

The shorter the vehicle the more tight turns and maneuver it becomes…reasons Jeeps makes better rock crawlers..

Where and how you will be off roading..kinda helps you to decide On getting a short or long bed…
When I had full size Dodge Ram w/ a 8 foot bed and a tall fiberglass camper…my whole family fill every space…
4 people on the front seat…lol. My kids were young then…

I wonder who will make the 5 1/2 foot 4 door mid size 4x4 truck? If Tacoma made there the truck 5.5 most likely will look more attractive!

There is NO wrong answer…just personal choices…reasons for so many colors of trucks

 

I'm in the camp for the biggest truck that will fit in your garage. For me it was the DCSB. Otherwise I would have been in the long box because I haul stuff. It would be better to go to the lake with. i wouldn't be adding the hitch carrier.

 

Better to have the extra space and not need it than to need it and not have it.

 

Moonroof drops the ceiling by like, what, 4"?

Are you talking about a 2nd gen or 3rd gen? 3rd gen ain't got shit for head room, cuz theyze made for shorty ass fools.

 

yeah, i hear on the Pro the floors are actually higher than the roof.

other than that, no one's head can ever touch the roof.

 

There's a section of road near my house where I make an extremely tight illegal u-turn to get on the interstate every morning at 0430 on my way to work. If I didn't have a SB I'd be 3-point turning and dick punching myself every morning. That's why I got a SB.....that and it's all they had on the lot.

 

Just do a handbrake turn and punch it. You'll make it

If you truly plan on camping in the bed, you will need a long bed. But, if that is the only reason you are considering a long bed and you plan on doing an RTT or something, I'd recommend driving both of them first. I never made it out of the parking lot in the LB I test drove -- to me, they drive very awkwardly and don't feel nearly as balanced as the SB. Kind of like a kid in a growth spurt when their arms and legs get long real fast and they don't know how to control them yet. I've never considered one again, and never really needed that extra foot.

I've been on light/moderate trails with guys that have the LB, and it's not much of a handicap, so I wouldn't worry about that part of it.

 

Ive slept in the back of my long bed quite a few times in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah ect. The long bed was great handled canyonlands and the moutian fine... I did recently upgrade to a half shell and roof top tent though the long bed made the world of difference for those cause even with the tent and the half shell I have tons of room for all my gear, my two dogs and family.

 

Plus SB looks better with DC
