My wife and I have the SMH10R and have no complaints when we are riding and hearing each other. She uses hers a lot to listen to music when she is on with me and not on the grom and doesn't have complaints. My only complaint is when a call comes in it's difficult to hear, but that is because I am partially deaf and I don't think to turn up the speaker volume from my phone when on the bike. So that complaint is personal.

Can’t stop staring at it since bringing it home last night. Need to get some security for it and maybe a trickle charger for winter. Anyone know about the BMW CanBus system and if I can just plug a pigtail tricker charger to the “powerlet” or canbus port?

Charging through the powerlet can be weird sometimes. I know my manual has specific warnings if you aren’t using a BMW approved charger. I’ve heard horror stories on ADVRider of people frying their ECUs or the ecu turning off the power to the port after ten or fifteen minutes and not charging after and other weird things. I’d say wire in a discreet pigtail for a charger. Plus then you have it for other things (compressor, voltmeter, usb adapter, etc)

Edit: great looking bike, btw. I’ve always wanted an RnineT

Never even a BMW guy but I would take one of these in an absolute heartbeat. One of their coolest bikes by far.

The Mitsubishi collection was not something on tour for fans to see. It was in the Mitsubishi headquarters campus in Japan.

And who cares if Honda has 400 of identical race bikes, Rossi isn’t entitled to a single one of them. For anyone to be upset with Honda for withholding their property from someone is absurd.

Hate to get in an accident with that hanging off the side, don’t you have a 5 or 6 gallon tank anyway ??

Have you never seen a bike carry fuel before?

If I get into an accident I’d have bigger problems than a fuel spill.
    :notsure:

the rotopax isn’t going to be a permanent fixture. It’s for longer trips. Planning on a trip to Death Valley this year and fuel stops have to be planned ahead of time. The extra gallon gives me room for unforeseen circumstances.

Yeah, don’t blame ya. Never ridden that part of the country, yet ! There’s a company that makes a small gas can that fits inside the hard saddlebags, Redican, something like that, not a bad idea on the roads you’ll be on !

It didn’t look like a lot of parts but it required disassembling the fairing, rewiring the handlebars and swapping clutch and brake lines. Got everything in, just need to bleed the brakes and it’s good to go. Spent some time putting all the handlebar wiring in a big loom to clean up the risers. Feels a hell of a lot more comfortable for my arms already.

edit: just realized I photobombed myself with the truck and the atc.

Thanks for all that info- that’s definitely good to know. I wanted to pick up this Optimate 4 with Canbus that should just be able to plug into the powerlet.

Looked around the bike a bit more tonight and found this pigtail
    82F1934E-B0F7-4B27-8E2E-FC14D1F491FB.jpg

I bought the bike from a dealer in town with 2k miles- one previous owner. I’m thinking they might have wired it up. I don’t think this pigtail is OEM- it’s zip tied discreetly on the left side of the bike.

Worth a try connecting a trickle charger through this pigtail or just go with the Optimate through the powerlet?

Check for 12v with the ignition/key off. Will be a good indicator that it’s a direct connection to the battery.

I’d do this and trace the wire to the battery.

That said, looks like the ring-end pigtail that’s came with my battery tenders

That pigtail most likely goes straight to the batter so you can charge through there. I have one on my bike as well (installed from the factory). I actually use it to power a BD S2 as an aux light up front.

Always been a Harley and Honda guy- riding a sportster I had in my avatar picture for this forum. Have had a softail and dyna in the past too. Never thought I'd own a BMW (not a big fan of their cars in general) but this is by far the nicest and smoothest riding motorcycle I've ever had. Started looking into the Nine t a couple months ago and just loved the rawness of the air cooled boxer engine and single plate dry clutch. Definitely a cool bike.
