    Wondering if anyone’s seen this on their Tacoma before. Looked under the truck today and saw all this black sludge / tar stuff all over the bottom, on the passenger side. You can also see some from the top. Oil is changed at all intervals and I have all the records of this.

    * it’s a 2006 4.0 V6
    * has 146K miles

    any ideas? Thanks in advanced.

    Looked at some pics and you seem to be right on. It looks like this stuff has been there for awhile. Is this pretty normal?

    very common on the 4.0 there's a TSB for it, timing cover leak

    Many people have just cleaned off and degreased the leaking area and smeared some sealant over the timing cover joint.

    Also power steering pump can leak, mine leaks and it will look like that if I don’t clean enough
