Just to clear up any confusion about the EASY WAY of passing wire through the firewall, please note that I said, “this is for a single wire and/or cable pass,” and “the screwdriver is against the sheet metal hole which can “skin” or damage wire,” and “I recommend using plastic loom in this area to prevent chaffing.” The “easy way” shouldn’t be used for numerous wire passes. As others have pointed out, it can result in a ground fault if done incorrectly. Key to this method is protecting the wire going through the hole and preventing contact with sheet metal. If I didn’t think the method was safe, I wouldn’t have used it. In response to other posts, please look carefully at the picture below. This is the primary OEM harness entering the left dash. Please count the wires (about 50) and note the gauges. Both light and heavy gauge wires are present, indicating control and powered circuits. Also note that Toyota uses braided loom and that many wires are exposed. Note the position of the screwdriver. This was my original entry point. From what I could tell, any other entry point put you in the middle of that wire bundle. Although it may look large in the picture, this entire area spans less than three inches.

Now, I don’t know about others, but there was just no way I was going to attempt multiple passes in the middle of this wire bundle. Each time you attempt a pass, you risk wire damage. Make multiple passes, and that risk increases dramatically. Especially if you use any sharp object. The insulation on those light gauge control circuit wires is fractions of a millimeter thin. They are woven with power circuit wires. Not only no, but HECK NO. This is why I used the HARD WAY and created a separate opening for multiple passes. It’s not hard because it’s difficult, it was hard because it’s a PITA getting position to drill and then making certain the hole was the right size. After I created this opening, I cut and removed my previous wiring pass, and rerouted everything through the new opening. This picture shows how clean and simplified the final product became.

As always, everyone has on opinion, which I respect. It’s your truck, you need to make your own choices. I’ve spent the last 6 months modifying mine, including several major installs. I’m writing a build thread that will include pictures and videos of everything I’ve done. What I’ve shown has worked for me, it may or may not work for you. More to come…

The outer perimeter of that grommet (as noted in the edited picture) is not in direct contact with the main harness wires that are in the center. It’s almost as a buffer/spacer and unless you haphazardly take a drill to make a hole I don’t see how you can cause any damage (1 wire or multiple). Yes be precise, use flush cuts or something to make a small cut in the ridge of choice, insert a bigger Phillips to enlarge or whatever you want to use to fish and pull.

I’ll try to get a picture tomorrow to show the space available and the ridges I’m talking about.

Here is my install video with the mounts I used. Whatever mounts you chose to use I recommend you purchase mounts that lock into the magwell, not just sit on it and they lock in both directions in the magwell. I explain it in the video.

Ok I did see that one and immediately no I just don’t like a lot with this one so I forgot it on my earlier post. I don’t have the cutouts in the bed for the new version lights so I won’t be needing that and the big squares towards the back don’t do it for me/unnecessary but would also get in the way of other accessories I have mounted. Thank you though

I got my Front Seat Covers from Coverking there the Molded ones they sell. Nice fit and look good to me. Will protect the Cloth Seats $179.00 later! Just put them on and it is getting dark. Better pictures tomorrow. They have a Foam Built Shape built into the Material under them. Feel good sitting on them too! I like these better then Leather they don't sweat to you and protect the Originals.

Damn. That makes me feel even more grateful for the gas prices that I have in my area. Currently we're at $2.93 (At the local Kroger). I also have Kroger reward card (I get fuel reward points) and a Kroger branded Mastercard (I got it because it offers a .65 discount on gas). When I filled up on Friday, I paid $2.08.

I just wish I had that Start/Stop button next to the transfer-case selector knob. Alas it wasn't an option for the Manual for some reason.

Did you have to raise the truck at all for these new tires? I want to beef my look up a bit with new tires but don’t want to put a lift kit on it. Any suggestions?

IDK if anyone knows off the top of their head. how tall does the OEM jack lift up to? I was just thinking i have my 2inch lift with my tires. may be too tall for the OEM jack
