i've never had any complaints with the original camera quality. I do not notice a difference for good or better on this camera vs the factory tailgate one vs the front camera I have from anytimebackupcamera. They are all good enough for what I use them for

Ouch, $135? I basically built mine for $63 with the connector caps and its the same concept. All plug and play too.

Well no, but if one is blocked why would I need to toggle between the two?

And after watching his install video, he can't toggle between them either. He's still unplugging the OEM and then plugging in his aftermarket. Then running an extra wire to the trailer harness for power.

If you made one that toggles between the two then congrats, but all the rest listed in this thread are unplugging the OEM to plug in their versions.

Oooo, is this easy to do or require some electrical skill? If it's an easy thing, I'd love to know what parts you got to do it. Thanks!

Only if you count soldering an electrical skill? ha, but you don't have to solder the wires. You could crimp them too. Just cut the yellow plug and spare red wire off the end of a Natika camera cable and splice it into a new plug.

and if you have OCD like I partially do. Here are the caps for the OEM backup camera cable. I intend to plug one into the existing cable that'll be unplugged from the tail gate.

I can sell generic 4 position caps for plugging cameras when not used for $10 a pair if people want. I bought some of them to check quality and decided they were not up to my standards so I use the OEM grade ones in my harnesses. I don’t have any of the 6’s. No need to spend $20 on caps.

I really just want an 6' cable like what the previous owner had for the bumper and then some sort of plug for the OEM slot on the tailgate.

Does anyone make a 12v camera that plugs into an aftermarket head unit? Would the head unit work as the remote switch? Basically, I want to remove my rear view mirror, which has the 6V camera screen in it.
Or would I just source that on Amazon? Probably would need one for the front too.

I dont want to be making my own plugs.

Another install detailed here with the a panoramic 360 camera system. Thanks to @StapleNut @caribe makaira and @Blueberry.Taco for their discussion in this thread, which helped immensely.

    Abbreviated version:
    - Parts described in this thread were used
    - I found cheap female and male connectors here: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32918483654.html
    - Not sure what the repercussions are of leaving the CAN BUS disconnected at the OEM truck-side connector, but for now everything works normally

I'm a bit confused by this picture. It looks like the numbers are pin position. Are the colors compatible between the two connectors? For example, is #1 on the 8pin equivalent to #4 on the 4pin?
