I feel like the second they put the cool word "kit" on it, it will cost more
    So far I've pieced together:
    -hitch hook, Amazon rhinogear?
    -ARB stretchy strap
    -shovel
    -cheap ViAir (88P?)
    -Staunt tire deflators
    -not sure what else
probably should have more. Like a NOCOboost

the above in different bags so they fit together in storage compartments

Nice! Reminding me I need a recovered shackle and tow strap!
If someone has one, that the OP don't want to purchase, I might be interested!

    Self recovery?
    Winch
    Tree strap
    Snatch blocks (atleast one)
Shackles(I run all synthetic for line and shackles)
Shovel <--#1 item i use it more than any other
    Air down/ Air up tools
    Basic tools
    Tire patch kit

    Recovery for others add
    Recovery rope(kinetic is best)
A way to connect to their vehicle if a soft shackle will not work or you have no soft shackle recovery points. This can be a metal shackle, I have used axle straps, or whatever you prefer.

I run central oregon landcruisers and we do a ton of recovery with our runs as we usually keep going till people get stuck. I also do paid recoveries for local tow companies when the snow gets real bad.. 99% of the time I can just shovel a little, Air them down and they are able to drive out.. maybe a quick tug on the kinetic. I am very very anti chain/cable and believe it has no place in 99% of offroad recovery.

I am in NY. This would be a gift for my pal who only does camping and has a wife who drives in snow like Magoo. I was thinking a basic rope and soft shackle would be okay. Toyota and ARB kits with bag are about $140. Plus I need it here by Xmas

Snow driving like Magoo get them a good set of chains! Work in clay goop too but what a mess.
Often left out is a heavy metal ground stake or hardened crowbar to pound in when no trees around so a 4lb mini sledge too - been there before.
I carry a 4-ton come-a-long as no winch and if you need to pull out backwards.
Traction boards or some 5/8" plywood boards at least two 1'x3'.
Other stuff has been listed. To find many google: "recovery kit 4x4"

She drives a newer Volvo X90. Not sure if they have recovery points or not.
