Anyone watch Motor Trend on demand ??? , They have show called Engine Masters and on season 6 episode 99 they had a dyno test showing K&N Cold air kits . They wanted to find if any negligible power gains / power loss using a CAI

Using a fuel injected 550hp LS3 for the test They tested power with no filter then varying sizes of cone filters . The smallest filter lost only 9hp and the other larger filters showed no power loss at all . The tested next both a filter sock and oil soaked foam filter wrap. The filter sock showed no power loss and the foam filter showed 9hp loss

Next They showed how much is to much tubing and the amount of bends especially 90° bends affect air flow . Keeping the piping as short as possible made hp whereas to many 90° bends killed hp . They also found out using a larger Dia filter on a long piece of tubing with 90 deg bends didn't make hp . Another test they found out going from 3" tubing to 4" picked hp

    Good info.

Still I'm not gonna spend that coin for 9 hp. That was for a 400 HP engine. We aren't gonna feel shit for our sub 250 HP rigs.

That is a pretty interesting show with lots of good info. The last part you mentioned makes sense as 3 inch to 4 inch pipe would be a Divergent Duct which increases pressure.

I remember in the mid 00's when I worked on a lot of hemis. They really responded well to the fat cold air intakes with no bends.

But ya a v6 won't gain anything from it, and any gains are from full throttle high rpm.

Fact: Main issue with K&N is that over oiling will mess the MAF sensor up and throttle body possibly too making it will run like you know what.
More a user issue than design issue but happens often. Great show! Watch the one on exhaust.

Yea gotta make that filter red like when it was new lol.

But I haven’t have any issues with too much oiling. Maf has been fine so far, I did have to clean my throttle body once but just as a regular maintenance.
