2000 Tacoma 4WD Base - no low gas warning light but it has AC!
Hey everyone. New posting here but I have been reading for years. We have a 2000 standard cab 4wd that has 140K on it. My father gave it to me after using it for an easy duty farm truck over the years. Perfectly maintained and only received OE parts. Great truck. My folks recently sold their property to 'retire' at 90 so I took over the Taco. It has zero options but it does have AC. Manual transmission as God intended. No low fuel light but has a low windshield washer fluid light! Hilarious.

I have worked in tech for the last 30 years but I am really a mechanic and fabricator at heart. I don't have big plans for the Tacoma as it has always gone where I told it but I am looking forward to upgrading once I find a need. I just put some Toyo AT3's in 265/70-16 and so far they are all the modifications I probably require. Good tires and a decent nut behind the wheel is a good start.

    Nice meeting ya!

Welcome to TacomaWorld. I identify with decent nuts, and am apparently known to the downtown squirrels... My daughter and son-in-law are located in Bend. Dad ordered his last truck in 2009 and had his specs, which were the same as I would have looked for. He asked if I would be interested in buying it and I replied, "I'll buy it when you're ready to sell it." He held on to it so long that I bought it from the estate, with the dent in front of the right rear fender, as he turned too soon while backing out of the garage to drive his routine laps around the driveway loop at the ranch. He quit driving it then, but would stand and watch as my sister drove the laps in his place. I replaced the original Dunlop AT20s with Michelin Defender LTX M+S tires, and found a set of takeoff Toyota wheels the same size as the original steel, so that will happen in the future. The old "How To Keep Your Toyota Truck Alive" book from the 1980s noted that these trucks are well-balanced between power, braking, and other systems, so there isn't much more that needs to be done. As AMD says on "The Car Care Nut" YouTube channel, of just about everything that you or a mechanic might suggest changing, Toyota built it and it's lasted for years (and he's in Rust Belt Chicago) so, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
