    Hello all,

I’m in the process of stock piling parts for installing a pro-charger on my 2017 trd or. As of now I have an afe dry filter in the stock intake box with the pro “accelerator” and a afe y-pipe installed in terms of performance parts. In anticipation for the install I have purchased a csf radiator, coolant and plugs a step colder. I’m interested in taking the time during the install to dial in my exhaust. Has anyone found any dyno results for 2gr-fks or similar engine with integrated exhaust manifolds with an equal length y-pipe? I’ve scoured over google and haven’t found any answers, just trying to see if it’s worth building an equal length pipe or if the integrated head negates the benefit found traditionally. Thanks for your time

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Talk to @Roostfactor, he can help provide some insight on this as he designed one for the 1GR

Good on you for looking into a Y pipe replacement. The stock Y is very restrictive. I will have dyno results for the URD SPEC U system which has an equal length Y pipe very soon.

I just Dyno’d the standard URD Y pipe last week which gets rid of the restrictive as hell crushed OEM pipe. As suspected by several members who installed this system that said it makes a difference, it gains 9 WTQ down low from the moment you hit the pedal. This is noticeable.

Magnuson Supercharger went in two days ago. Dyno on Tuesday. URD exhaust was ordered but we are at least two weeks out from shipping.

Let me know how the results come out. I dropped my afe y-pipe out to try and start figuring out the radius cuts required and have found that the transmission thermostat housing causes a major hiccup for packaging and forces the crossover fairly low under the trans pan, which won’t work with my current skid plates. I have looked at the spec-u system, specifically the y-pipe section, to use in conjunction with my current muffler setup. I was just hesitant about the length before the merge and the fact that it’s merging in a resonator not a collector. I look forward to your results!

Also interested in how the afr’s will balance out with an equal length pipe and the positive pressure from the blower. I really wish there was an aftermarket fuel pump available for the third gens so I wasn’t at the mercy of waiting for ovtune’s fuel pump controller.

Room to transition to oval tubing, then back to normal?

Possibly if the sweep leading to the pan was tightened up. It will end up being very close in proximity to the trans pan which I’m not thrilled about, even if it’s wrapped. As of now I’m in a holding pattern until Formidable is able to dyno his spec-u system. I don’t want to go through the packaging headache if the integrated manifold heads don’t react as well as a traditional head to an equal length setup.

I made and installed these over a year ago, no issues with heat what so ever. My intention was to wrap it, ended up not being needed.

Thank you for the compliments. Had a blast making it. Roost is the man, if I had a template of one I wouldn’t mind helping him out.

Currently, I have the only custom made equal length y-pipe from @Roostfactor for a third gen truck. The following is from a post I made giving my evaluation of his work.

    Quote:

Thanks for all of your hard work. I am now on my fourth y pipe since I bought my truck new 3 and 1/2 years ago. I went from the OEM to the URD Mk1 to the URD Mk 2 and finally to the JFR version. After driving almost 1100 miles in the last day my evaluation is as follows:

    Performance:

Driving through Oklahoma I had to stop at 6 toll booths which gave me a chance to do 6 wot pulls. I have the OV 93 octane performance tune which has a 6800 rpm red line and I made use of that feature repeatedly. It is very clear that there is an increase in power in the middle rpm range of 2000 to 4000. After that it seems to me that there was no change in power. This is actually good because the URD pipe only gave me an improvement in the upper rpm range.

    Sound:

This was my greatest surprise. After starting it up for the first time I got out and walked around the back of the truck and didn’t hear anything. I have the TRD Pro cat back and always heard a low rumble on start up before but now it is so quiet that I had to walk back to see if it was still running. Reving it up gives a very pleasant sound that I have not been able to find a word to describe it yet.

    Mileage:

My first tank of gas only gave me 23 mpg which is below average for me. We reset the ECU so I knew that it would take a while to go through the learning process. My second tank gave me 26 mpg which is more like my average going 75 mph on the road. My third tank was a little higher than that but some of the driving was only at 55 mph on a detour around Chicago. I have done some aerodynamic mods such as a belly pan which helps a lot.

    Negatives:

The only negative experience I had was the most devious and visceral mosquitos that I have ever encountered. LOL I had 15 mosquito bites on my left arm and 7 bites on my right arm. I wised up a little by wearing a long sleeve shirt on the second day. I don’t know why I had so many more bites on my left arm but they really appreciated my sweet Florida flesh.
Also my body is still a little sore from getting under that truck around a hundred times.

    Summary:

After waiting almost a year and driving over 1200 miles from Florida it was absolutely worth it in every way. I would like to thank Roost for his attention to detail. He is a great person who also has a lot of stories of his time in the military. He worked on the same engines that powered the aircraft that I flew in the Navy. I would also like to thank his sweet wife for being so nice to allow a stranger to sleep on her couch.

It may be hard to see in this pic but the 3rd gen auto trannys have a trans fluid heater/thermostat unit attached to it that will interfere with my standard equal length design on 3rd gens.

Any results on that dyno yet? I dyno'd +30hp/10ftlb at the wheels with the Spec-U on my NA, and would imagine even bigger gains with the SC

The supercharger dyno was somewhat of a disappointment. See below. We got 273 WHP and 289 WTQ. The curve looks like dog shit and we are working out the potential problems one at a time. One of which is clutch slip, (just replaced yesterday with clutchmasters FX250). Second is rear brake drums sticking on dyno. Stoptech rear disc replacement about to get installed. Third is the tune. Working with @mZiggy to get his Yotawerx FI tune ready for release and it is coming along very nicely.

Full URD spec U exhaust was ordered months ago. Gadget says they have a supply issue like the rest of the nation with no ETA as of yet.

Was also 4th gear pulls instead of 3rd, no?

Yes. To bring @758_Moto up to speed, 4th gear pulls are no bueno. There’s a very good reason all the dynos for the third gen Tacoma are done in 3rd gear. The thought is the Toyota ECU has some torque limiting code when the truck exceeds 100 mph. I think OV tune confirmed in a prior thread that the ABS gets activated and the rear drums are physically engaged to limit torque despite traction control being completely off. Only way around it is to pull the ABS fuse. This will be done on the next run. In the meantime just going to get rid of the drums entirely. Rotors you can see and feel that they heat up. Drums we have no clue what’s going on.

Serious question any CELs? P0402s but to no rear cats. Reason asking bc last Wednesday I got hit by the cat thieves. Little annoyed but found roosters thread and see your a 3rd gen he did. So figured since it was after the rear cats no CELs yea well.
