Ideas for heating a Condo in New England

So after selling my condo in August i figured renting would be great; don't have to fix a thing nor am I liable for much, pay my rent and utility bills and have one less worry in the back of my mind.

Come to find out there is a Freon leak in the AC line, wasn't too concerned - i don't need AC generally..however i did not consider the leak means the heat-pump produces no HEAT, in Connecticut. Spoke with Landlord and she told me she would send over an HVAC contractor, he comes and refills and leaves...still little to no heat. Now that its been getting into the low 30s i emailed her to get the ball rolling on this again, find out this morning she had an estimate to fix and the HOA board rejected it, so I'm kind of stuck with this for now. What are some decent heating options out there?

Specs-unit is about 1000 sqft with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath and a lower end unit meaning its colder than the ones wedged in between.(I have 2 space heaters currently which work fine, and have a nice portable gas fireplace but the bioethanol is a fortune and burns fast)

Thanks for any ideas I can leave turned low while I'm @ work for 12 hours a day.

these IR heaters to heat our place over the winter when the oil furnace finally died, and we were waiting for the heat-pump. They worked quite well (nb. Not these specific units, just this style). How does the HOA Board (?) reject a repair like this? Heat in the winter is a little more than a luxury...

I wouldn't recommend that for heating a home. Not enough output plus you'll be going through those small propane tanks like crazy since they only last a few hours per tank.

And i was shocked, landlord either lying or because the decks were recently replaced and the line goes under the deck.

Was looking into these as well. The electric heat can get pricey but its better than none..thanks.

 

electric oil heater. We have one in the house. they generate a good amount of heat for what its worth

 

Hard cheese for the landlord! I would think there's some sort of tenancy rights legislation in your state; I'm sure it includes primary heat as a basic entitlement of a leased residential property...

How is your condo heat paid? Is it in the lease, or are you responsible for utilities. I think the landlord is responsible for something.

 

I'd pressure the landlord more. The HOA thing sounds like a BS excuse for them to not spend abunch of money. I don't know how an HOA can deny repairing your heat.

 

this is why i like to own my stuff.... if it needs to be fixed ill fix it or get someone to fix it. Landlord doesnt care because she isnt living there.

Heat is generated through electric paid by tenant-me. Its a heat pump each unit has individual heating/cooling.

I know the president when i moved in, i'm going to ask her about it and can see if the Landlord is lying. Honestly my landlord is in her 70s and doesn't need the money thing, shes not a slumlord. Had an amazing deal, well until this.

Its great until the rainy day fund needs to be used and then find out X caused Y to fail and you should probably replace Z while you're at it. In the market up here its a sellers and took advantage otherwise i'd be doing my own shyte.
