Hey guys…I’ve tried getting info on a few other sub-forums here without much luck. Maybe you can help?

I currently have a ‘17 Sport with an OME lift and 265s. It looks great, but I’m looking for something a little beefier as I’ve added a decked box, tools, and a rack to the bed. I also plan on towing a 2.5k boat on occasion. The current setup squats badly IMO.

I’m in possession of 2 different suspension lifts.

1 - an Icon stage 2. 2.0 C/Os and 2.5 rear shocks w/ approximately 15k on them…but the previous owner said that he found a dime sized drop of oil at the base of one of the shocks when he got them out of his garage. I’ve had them for 4 months and have noticed no leaking (not mounted). They look to be in great shape, but I’m guessing they need a rebuild. I picked up a set of OME light duty leafs that have an AAL as well.

2 - I picked up a set of Fox 2.0 C/Os w/ a .5” spacer and 2.5 extended rear shocks and an almost new ICON RXT leaf set which I plan on using with either c/o or shock setup. The coils and shocks only have 20k on them, but they look rougher than the Icons due to being sourced in the northeast. I really don’t like the surface corrosion on the coilover body nor the silver spring of the Fox, but it seems to be favored over the Icons by most of the people here that have far more experience with Tacoma’s. I’m guessing these should be rebuilt as well.

    My questions for you…

    1. Would you be able to rebuild them even though I didn’t purchase them from you?

    2. which set would you recommend, and if it’s the Fox, can the silver springs on the coils be powder coated black, or replaced with black springs?

    1. We can rebuild and tune Fox remote reservoir shocks, we also do not work on IFP shocks, which are shocks without reservoirs. Unfortunately we do not work on Icon shocks at all.
    2. Fox would definitely be our recommendation based on the info above, however we would highly suggest ditching those front 2.0 coilovers and get a matching set of 2.5 RR coilovers. Also ditch the .5" spacer all together

Feel free to shoot us a direct message to discuss options for your truck

I misspoke...I actually have the 2.5ifp extended travel coilovers (880-02-361)

I'm not really in the market to spend much more on this project right now, so I'm going to ride with what I've got...just trying to get the best setup I can. The fox C/Os have a considerable amount of rust/corrosion. If I stick with the Fox stuff, I'd like to get rid of it...is that something you guys do when you do rebuilds? or is there a cleaner/method you recommend?

Rust and corrosion means the coating on the bodies have been worn off. You can certainly do your best to clean them up, but without re-coating them they will likely rust again. Some have chosen to use Steel-it coating or similar products. We do not clean or fix rusty shocks.

We don't ever recommend buying used shocks. What may seem like a good deal, may end up costing you a lot for rebuild/repairs. It's nearly impossible to know the condition of the shocks without pulling them apart to see what the internals look like.
