Pulled into a parking space, put it in park and in the same motion pushed the off button. however i had only pushed the gear shifter to the R position so when i pushed the off button it stayed running and having taken my foot off the brake the truck backed up a few feet until i pushed the brake. realizing what i did i put it in D to pull back in and the truck still went backwards! i put it in N then back to D still it's in reverse. finally i put it in N and turned it off, restarted and works fine.
BTW am aware it is Friday...

That is odd. Sounds like the ECU got confused. See if you can make it happen again for poo and giggles.

Could be. It strikes me as odd that one cannot turn the truck off in gear. Kind of like the designers believe automatics are for drunk monkeys. Of course, my truck will not let me shift in or out of 4Lo unless completely stopped, probably because of too many drunk knobs.

Though, given how easy it would be to push and turn too far, I can see why. But, I do miss the manual transfer case in my 1st gen.

Stock wheels and suspension. Random "utilitarian" mods featured on this great forum.
I can turn mine off in gear; I've done it a few times while still in D. It turns off but gives a constant annoying noise. I'll have to try it in R... by mistake.

So, don’t turn off your car prematurely in Reverse. Got it.

Easy fix is what you did. Leave it in Neutral. Turn it off. Turn it on, switch back to park. Turn off.

i new we have throttle by wire but never thought shifter by wire. guess in the back of this old farts mind i thought when you move the shifter you are moving linkage to the tranny. been under there enough times i should have thought duh, where is the linkage!
