Anybody out there ever try to figure out timing how long it takes AT fluid to empty the transmission pan from starting the truck? With transmission line pressure between 210 to 252 psi it would only take a matter of seconds. Also considering how much fluid drains back into the pan from the filter before it travels to the pump. I bring this up because it would seem to be less cumbersome to figure out the timing on the cycle and just drain and fill.

I don't plan on changing the filter till about 60-100K miles being its just a mesh screen filtering out chips.

Then use the fluid check illustrated in this thread which worked great for me as I traveled from Cali to Missouri couple months ago.

    My theory good, bad, ugly:

1.Empty AT pan and fill with new fluid.

    2. Start engine for the amount of time to pump AT fluid out of Transmission pan. I imagine a few seconds then shut off.

    3. Repeat this twice being it takes 12 quarts of transmission fluid to fill a transmission and 6.2 quarts to fill the empty transmission pan.

Just wanted to throw that out there to see if anybody ever considered this. Figuring it would be much less laboring than cycling 3-4 times.

Not sure what you gain by doing this? It won't suck up exclusively the new fluid as it gets replaced by the old. They're going to mix in the pan as soon as it starts. What am I missing?

Think if you're really set on doing something like this pin the thermostat open and use the cooler lines?

But think you're best off dropping pan first time for a look and then a few drain and refills after that.
