Christmas bed lights 2018

Red is fine, blue is the problem.

 

Green is also a issue I think.

Generally the rule is red/yellow/amber in the rear is ok. White/yellow/amber in front is ok. Any other colors are usually frowned upon by LOE.

 

No 400w plug in the bed of my SR...or I'd be sporting this for sure!

 

Just looked it up and you are correct, green is prohibited in some states. In a twist I did not expect, California is surprisingly lax on lighting laws.

 

I’m going to try net lights over my tonneau cover and see how that looks.

 

Odd, I would think cali would be the hardest.


I went through all the laws in my state (ended up with a few other states too) when I did my research on if I could run amber strobes in my turn signals. Came up with a few colors that they dont relly like.

 

Illegal in Washington at least, and yes, WSP will actively pull you over for it. Oh well.

Do you have an outlet in the bed? That's what I plug mine into, there's just a button in the cab to turn it on/off.

I have it going to the front of the bed rail then doubling back so I can open the toolbox.

Red depends on state too - if it's flashing. Strobe lights in RI need a strobe light permit, and must be amber for a plow truck or tow truck, cannot use red. Blue is reserved for law enforcement. Green is typically reserved for woods police/park rangers, sometimes security. Purple for funeral.

I've done this a few years, have never been pulled over for it. It's also illegal to go 31 in a 30.

 

I plugged a couple of string lights in the bed last year for the fun it, but decided not to drive around town with them. I saw this online the other day...

 

Silly question but has anyone had trouble with Johnny Law re: christmas lights?

Looking it up, christmas lights definitely hit 1 or 2 illegal colors for cars to display, so I could see a Grinchy cop using that as an excuse to cause some hassle.

Asking because I want to do this around the top of my cap, but also don't wanna end up with a roadside cavity search or something as a result.

 

I doubt you'll have an issue during the holidays.

 

I have done it every year and not had a issue, but I only turn them on in parking lots and neighborhood. Turning them on while on the highway would be considered a distraction for other drivers and a safety risk.

 

I do. And sounds like that’s the route I’ll take.

 

Anyone run a Christmas inflatable in the bed? Our neighborhood is doing a small parade and I’ve got an 8’ bumble I’m thinking about running. The net lights I planned are burnt out. I’ve got the outlet in the bed and think the watts of the inflatable is around 80. Anyone done this? If i do I’ll take picks.
