I love my coffee. We have a great super automatic espresso machine at home. and an aeropress. The reality is we aren't going to even get close while on the road. I would much rather have a quick and easy clean up and get 90% good coffee. So:

I usually go instant because I’m a stickler for keeping my pack weight as low as possible. I like to go 2tbs sugar, 1tbs instant coffee, 1tbs of water then mix until sugar granules dissolve and it turns into a nice peanut butter color. Add hot water and it will get a wonderful thick, creamy foam. For instant, it’s actually a pretty good cup of Joe.

Just bought it, but it's been lifted and who knows what else has been crappily done before I got it. It's going to be a project for sure... but it's my daily driver too.
I've started thinking about PackOuts for my O/L setup and overall cause I love "the Red" and use them for a lot of stuff. I am hoping that I can work with someone and make a roof rack floor with the PackOut cutouts to mount the boxes... but I haven't made it that far yet.

That's pretty awesome! I have some of those (well, my ex-wife left them behind with tons of loose tea... and I even got the mini stapler in the divorce too!), but I was just getting to the point of thinking about bringing coffee that way. I recently (May) brought #50 of puro Guatamalteco back from my novia's dad's land in Morelia... and it is KILLER. So, I'm glad I'm not the only freak loading his own out there. HAHA

I saw the Aero before one of my deployments, but didn't get one until much later... the one thing that changed my whole AeroPress life was this https://www.amazon.com/Altura-Mesh-Aeropress-Stainless-Reusable/dp/B00JVTQHVC

But... like you, I moved on and still have fond memories, even though it still travels as backup in some of my loadouts... Sadly the MyJo sits in the kitchen drawer and my only "real" low-pro, down-n-dirty backup is a SeaTSummit X-Brew Coffee Dripper. I carry that one in my JIC travel setup.

I've tossed two of those mesh filters in the garbage/compost in a morning haze. That's the only downside to them.

The most important thing in coffee is keeping it hot, I use insulated mugs with lids. I grind my beans, use a drip coffee maker at home, pour it into my mug, add just a little sugar, stir, lid it and enjoy good hot coffee until the mug is empty. In the afternoon on occasion I’ll make a mug of tea, put the bag in the cup, pour hot water over stir just a bit, lid it and let it deep a couple minutes. Take the lid off stir again and squeeze the bag with a spoon and remove it, add a dash of sugar and stir, lid it and drink away.

Now that I discovered in this thread you can buy empty tea bags and use for coffee, Im gonna try those and use my tea bag method for coffee when camping.
I like Black Rifle Just Black, Hawaiian Kona and Kona/Arabic blends. Really any good coffee medium roast.
Dark roasts/French roasts I avoid, you can burn any lousy bean and they all taste the same so get the cheap stuff lol.

Miir makes a collapsible pour over doohickey, I used that with a metal screen. Great for backpacking too. If Im feeling fancy we have a nanopresso that pulls some nice shots.

nothing gets the morning consult with nature going than some espresso in the woods. i use a moka pot style espresso on the camp stove or on the fire. you fill the bottom with water put your grounds in the stainless filter, screw the top on and give it a low flame. it gives off a frothy jet sound when the water at the bottom has finished boiling up to the top and there is liquid gold waiting for you under the flip top lid. grounds shake out as a puck usually. its definitely a single purpose item in the mess kit but those powdered coffee or tea bag solutions don't cut it.
    MokaPot

    Grinder
Porlex grinder for that morning self cutting, the handle flys off and your knuckles mate with the sharpened hex shaft if you aren't quite awake.
geez, its as expensive as it was a decade ago when i thought ..1lb grinder on a thru hike, "nah, not too heavy"...

    Vietnamese coffee filter
For solo communions i use these. you can find in most asian markets too. dirt cheap, fool proof, they rest on top of your favorite double walled camp cup. using espresso grounds and the screw down filter plate, you can keep the grounds tightly packed and the espresso will drip like an IV...
How do you get black sunshine from this contraption before going insane you ask? remove the lid and press down with the cuppy palm of your hand. yes, its worth it. using this method you can get some delicious crema extraction that doesn't occur with gravity drips.
and when you are still waiting for the sun to rise it does feel good to have hot water that close to your hands. clean up again is a dry puck and the filter itself stacks into your camp cup

I grew up in Central America drinking coffee made in a coffee sock(google it) and sweetening with raw sugar, which was awesome by the way. We couldn't drink the water, so even at as a child we drank coffee.
Fast forward about 40+ years and I'm married to a coffee snob who has the following set up:

When I'm out at the hunting lease, or camping I use coffee that I grind ahead of time and a percolator I've had since before I had a wife.

I take some creamer packets and sugar in a ziploc bag to "season" to taste. I like my coffee strong, and this BRCC coffee is strong but not bitter.
Clean up consists of dumping the grinds and rinsing the pot. I usually do a thorough cleaning once a year and get all the campfire soot off the pot.
Sometimes I just do cowboy coffee or use a sock. I'm nostalgic like that.

Boil water for tea and instant coffee. This works great for my wife and me. Excess water can be used for instant oatmeal. I like Trader Joe’s instant coffee it’s as close as I come to making it at home.
    Second choice is French press.

We have a large percolator but prefer our Stanley Personal French Presses. Carry two in my truck bed drawer system at all times, along with espresso ground coffee of choice, and water. Pull out stove, heat water, add coffee, press and enjoy.
