Do you lubricate inside valve tappets/shims?

    Do you put oil inside valve tappets AKA shims AKA lifters and on top of the valve stem, before closing the tappet? Or do you leave it dry?

    Ideally assembly lube, but I just smear oil on them.

    If you did it dry and already installed them, simply prime the engine prior to first start, it takes a long time for the valve train to get oil but it will suffice.

    Tuned the lifters to be in the range (replaced maybe 50%), took all out and put back.

    By "on them" do you mean "inside them" (that goes against the valve stem) or around the outside the cylinder?

    Any metal to metal is where pre-lube goes.

    Shims aren't as critical as a new bearing, just prime it.

    Disable the fuel or ignition and crank it for 15 seconds with 15 second breaks.
