So hey guys I am about to upgrade to a high profile camper. I will be getting the one that is higher than the cab not a cab over.

before i do is their any major cons to the campers that are higher than my cab? I will be getting a fiberglass one. I plan to so more camping and want more room to sit up inside during my adventures etc.

I have a mid-rise (leer 180) with Thule cross bars, I saw zero impact on fuel economy.

For me, the only real downside to high rise toppers is that they don't look as good as cab-height or mid-rise on 2g and 3g. They look awesome on 1g though.

Remember it's going to be even taller still if you put racks on it. The taller shells are harder to load things onto as well unless you're really tall. Even with a cab high I keep one of those inexpensive folding plastic stools in the back when carrying my kayaks or other items. I really regret getting the cab high ARE CX instead of the MX.

Well I do get 14 with my 17' camper trailer! Frankly it's worth it two beds, shower, toilet, heat that's my ideal of camping!

A little late to the game…
I’ve only had my truck for a little bit, but I have the leer high top with about 2 inches of lift in the back and I only have 2 inches to spare in my garage and my work parking garage. I am nervous going into any new parking garage. My antenna is a good gauge for height, if that hits, I know I’m close. I’d struggle to get my kayak up and down from there if I could even put a rack on it. Mine isn’t level on top so you’d have to take that into consideration if you wanted a rack. You may get blown around a little more with high winds from the higher sides too.
That said, it is nice. The first time I had to use the bed, the taller cap allowed me to make fewer trips. It is easy to move around in. I found the cap used pretty cheap because the teenager didn’t like the “grandpa look” of his first vehicle. I’m an old soul and don’t mind the old man look.

Nice, looks familiar. I need to weather seal mine too and rig up something in the garage to hold it if I ever want to take it off.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I’ve run ARE high rise toppers on my last four Tacoma’s, a 99, 2003, 2009 and my ‘19. The only downside I’ve experienced is carrying long loads like my kayaks. The bar spread of my rack bars is narrow. Results in a not so sturdy mount. My mpg actually increased about 2.5 mpg while pulling trailer after topper install.
