3rd gen 2.7 engine fit a 2nd gen?

    Hey everyone new to site . I recently picked up a 2011 2.7 for my son. I knew going into there was engine issues, was told timing chain but was bigger. So started looking for used engines . For what ever reasons 3rd gens are about a grand cheaper. So my question is will it work. My other option is to rebuild our 2.7 but free time is slim. Lol

    I don't think so, I believe the 3rd gen 2.7 has VVT on both cams and the 2nd gen has VVT on one cam.

    I could be wrong but I was under the impression they were pretty much the same engine. You could run into some issues with the computer though if the above comment is true.
